My speedometer is stuck at 30 mph. It was working fine today, then it wasn't. TApping it of course didn't help. Turning off, then on didn't help. How do I go about troubleshooting this problem? We did hit a small bump, likely debris, today on the water, if that matters. All other systems are functional.

Whatever you hit (probably a piece of soft wood) probably plugged up the pitot tube.

I have been reading on line about speedos and pitot tubes. Where do I find this on my boat? Is it on the transom or the drive? I have a 2005 Horizon H250 with a Merc bravo III 6.2 liter.

OK, I'm not a Merc guy, I'm thinking the pitot tube may be in the drive itself. On Volvos its the separate black plastic "fin" that extends down from the bottom of the transom with the flexible plastic tube attached.

Should be a notch on the leading edge of the drive. The tube should also be near the front of the drive. If you can disconnect the tube at the speedo, and at the drive, then try blowing it from the speedo side toward the drive with air (be careful, not too much pressure). Do the same from the tube through the drive, again from the tube through the drive. You may need a paper clip or something to get anything out of the pitot tube.

Stuff clogs those pitot's periodically, but usually doesn't require this much effort.

I use to keep a piece of wire and a small drill bit to clean out the pilot tube when we owned a merc alpha. It does not take much at all to plug. Very easy to clean!

So I take a drillbit or wire and twist it into that small notch? I thought that notch was a nick on the drive.

Page 23 of this pdf Bravo III manual shows very well where the pitot opening is, and actually recommends a size for the drillbit to use (2 mm diam). http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/11/11d3r5x.pdf

Yep sounds pretty similar to what I had to do. Sounds just a bit smaller than the 1/8 bit I had to resort to using. Good luck. Should come out just fine with some patience.

The Speedometer is specific name of vehicle. And It's use sensing speed. A speedometer is An instrument for motor vehicle indicating speed. An instrument distance or rate of speed.

Ah, good. I'm glad we cleared that up, because I was a little lost up to then,

Spam, eggs and spam or eggs, spam, spam and spam?

Maybe just a wafer thin mint!
