Just a little shot of the oxidation before and after. The Porter Cable 7424XP recommended through out the forums worked flawlessly! Oxidation removal, polishing and waxing were made ALOT more simple and quicker with this tool. I used the Meguires oxidation removal kit but expected it to work a little better on the "chalky" white area. Maybe I need a stronger cutting compound. regardless, it looks much better. The pic is shown after using only the #49 oxidation remover.

What product have you used on the white areas of your boat to bring that shine and luster back?

The only one to use is 3m Super Duty rubbing compound. I have the local parts stores get it. Some carry it if they are a body shop supply house. This is what they use in the body shops.

With all due respect, 3m is not the only stuff to use. I've been on a seemingly endless and costly search for the best compounding, polish and wax routine for 8-10 years now. And you can't get anymore particular about glossy gelcoat than me. There are good ones out there, Buff Magic and 3m have some but hands down the best stuff I've ever used is the following:

The cutting creme will take just about any level of oxidation back to a high gloss. Almost to the point where a polish is unnessary. Its THAT good. But as picky as I am, I stuck with the 3 step process. The results . . . better than new in my opinion.

The top of my arch was relatively oxidized but afterwards, as good as new..
Notice you can't even see the reflection of the sun.

I totally agree with Cincy and the Presta products. I bought the Super Cut compound and Ultra Cutting Cream based on his results in another thread.

The finish on our boat was in decent shape. It has blue hull sides. The previous owner obviously wasn't a clean freak like me. I had been using Buff Magic and was happy with it. However, even though it shined nicely you could still see a little white haze in the smooth mirror-like finish if viewed from a certain angle. So this past weekend I tried the Presta products...WOW! Realized that I've been wasting my time these past years. It looks like new! First I used the Super Cut with a wool pad, followed up with Ultra Cutting Cream, then 3M Finess-It and finished with Yacht Brite polish. First three steps I used wool pad and a rotary machine which makes a huge difference. Polish applied with foam pad.

My search for the perfect product is over. After this go-around I shouldn't need the Super Cut again.

Cincy, does that polish say anything on the label about UV protection? The Presta site doesn't seem to say anything about it. It contains an odd combination of ingredients according to the MSDS, but you sure can't argue with the results. Did you use your 7424, or have you graduated to a circular? What pad? Very nice job!

Here is some 3M only. No polish with Wool pad. I did put Eagle Nano spray wax afterward.
I was just as bad or worse than jtupman when I started on it.
For the buffer, the cheap crapper one at Harbor Freight with a replacement warranty. Works great!
I got a good one as it has seen lots of use from different projects in 2 years.

And one more thing, I can go to my local O'Reilly's and buy it on the shelf.
The last bottle was around 15 bucks.

this is pretty impressive, but it's easy enough to wax, polish and photograph.

We tested three top-shelf products -- including Meguire's -- and they
all looked brilliant.

But here's my problem ... 60 days later, there's no trace of any of the waxes.
At all. It's as if it was never waxed.

Staying power is the true test.

This new "nano-technology" coating "claims" to last 2 years and
not need waxing at all. Have you seen those services?
Anyone here ever tested one of those services?

:-)

Thanks
