Post subject:  WAX!!!!!!

Ok so I have some conflict. I hear not to use wax with carnuba in it on gel coat because it will yellow the gel coat. the Maguirs pure wax is a carnuba blend, the flagship premium doesnt say what is in it. And this wax they recomended at the Mastercraft dealer ( I was there because it was the only place open on the weekend) was a carnuba based wax that said it was good for gelcoat etc. So i got the flagship wax because it made no mention of carnuba. The person at the store said that carnuba when left on for many years itself will turn yellow but will not yellow the gelcoat. I need everyones .02

I don't know if there are any chemists here qualified to address the effects of carnauba on gel coat. I *do* know that the Flagship Premium has a lot of usage behind it by a lot of boaters, and I've never heard anything less than, "You have to see this to believe it." I assume it uses silicones as a "wax" agent, but I don't know for sure.

I use the Meguir's Flagship as it was recommended to me on this forum and elsewhere, including my dealer.

I've heard good things about Collinite Fleetwax too.

I stick with what the big boys use. Bluewater, Carver, Fountain and Cigarette. Collinite Fleetwax 885. They put on the best demo I ever seen at the Miami Boat show in 05 proving why they offer the best wax out. I also learned not to wax below the waterline, it slows the boat down!

I've always heard the same about carnuba, and have always stayed away from it. I had a 1973 I/O that I used to wax frequently (but never with carnuba) and the white on it still looked bright with no yellowing and my dad said it looked just like it did when he drove it off the showroom floor.

So, chemistry degree (which I DON'T have) aside, I stay away from the carnuba. I've always heard good reviews of Collinite, but isn't that a carnuba-based wax?

The Meguir's Flagship turned out to be excellent. On and off the boat easy and dear god the richness of the black on the hull! Lookes fantastic. Think I'll be using this forever...

I vouch for the Meguir's Flagship, based on many good words from this site and others. I wasn't dissapointed when I put it on! Longevity: not sure of that yet. I 'll let you know after this season!

Post subject:  Collinite Fleetwax is the way to go!

I was using a carnuba paste wax which worked well, then I friend recommended Collinite. The cleaner and wax leave a showroom finish.

Yep, I used both the Collinite cleaner and the wax on our 348 and it looks fantastic. It was relatively easy to apply. I actually found it easier to apply and remove by hand than with a polisher. Hanging my arm up there with a wobbling polisher was actually more tiring than just swabbing it off by hand.

I also used Flitz to clean the metal and than Collinite's metal wax on it. I didn't use the polishing ball as it would've taken more liquid and probably thrown a mess of it all over the place.

I have been using Maguirs cleaner wax and flagship premium on my boats and RVs for years with nothing but the best in results.

I used Maguirs Flagship on my last boat for at least 5 years and Never saw any yellowing. Someone is feeding you a line.

Maguers cleaner wax here. I use it on the entire boat. after I cleaned the yellow lake stain of my boat this year I waxed the entire thing. I do below the water line as well. It fills the pours in the gel coat and helps remove the remaining stain from the hull. If it does slow it down then it cant be much plus the water and friction will remove the residual wax in short order anyway....
