Installing a Fusion head unit in place of the stock Clarion. Fusion has 4 x 25 RMS - so probably OK. But I may run an amp to the speakers in the arch. If I do that... Will the existing stock cables that go from the head unit to the arch speakers be good enough? |

Likely not. Where do you plan on mounting the amp? 16 AWG, OFC speaker cable is cheap as chips, so no excuse not to upgrade it... |

It will not hurt to upgrade the wires! But, 16 awg really should be fine. Its not like your tiring to power a true load is a VHF, pump ect.......... I would install it and try it. Look at the wire the speakers come with. I doubt if its 14 or 12 gauge wire. Better still, what does the instruction from the amp state. |

You can always connect some new wire without switching them out to see if you hear a difference. I doubt you will. As long as four Winns used 16 gauge, you will be fine. It's a boat. Acoustics are not great, and a slightly better wire will probably not make an audible difference. |

I should have added. You will enjoy that head unit! Lets us know. Its NMEA2k, so you don't need home runs to all the remotes. I display the depth my transom remote when at anchor. |

Any time I have ever replaced a speaker or amp in a vehicle - I have always run new wiring. It is relatively cheap, easy, and makes me more comfortable. |

What wattage are you likely going to drive them with and what size wire is there currently? Id be more concerned with corrosion wicking down the insulation at the speaker end of the wire and not the size. Id clip the old ends off, strip some insulation back and see what it looks like. This is usually the reason to upgrade. |

Thanks guys. I'm planning on using the stock loom that runs from the elec panel to the top of the radar - I really don't want to mess around with running new wires - I'll give the stock ones a run. I will install a sub as well. On that has anyone mounted one in 288 ?? Location advice? I am thinking on port side of glovebox under helm seat. Is there an easy way to run the cables from the elec panel to under helm seats? |
