Hey guys. I'm planing on upgrading my stereo this summer, I have started with purchasing a pair of Polk mm651um for the front. Im also about to order the Rockford fosgate M600-4d amplifier. But I'm trying to find speakers for the rear. My rear speakers are the ones with the mesh over them so I can't use the mm651um's because the grill is not removable. I've been looking at the Polk mm651 instead but noticed they are 2.7 ohm instead of 4ohm will this be a problem for me or will they be a good fit

Thanks.

SHOW THE world your speakers.

Mine are the same way. I couldn't find a pic and my boat isn't close enough to take one right now. But if you look at this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7jRErly_cE

and fast forward to 2:30, right behind the grab handle is a panel with mesh covering it. There's a 6 1/2" speaker back there.

My plan is to use Polk DB651s back there. The grille is removable on those.

I used Polk DB651 for my rear speakers that are covered by cloth.

I had to remove the panel with the cloth in order to access the mounting screws. Then Mounted the DB651 from the back, then reinstalled the panel with the cloth (without using the Grill that came with the speakers). They sound great.

There will be no resistance conflict, but know that the lower ohm speakers will be getting more power from your amp.
Not ideal, but you may need to mess around with your gains to have a balanced sound, front to rear.
I'd try have matching pairs - but I'm OCD. 8)

That amp will not have any problems driving the selected speakers. the pair of 4 ohm would be on their own chnls, say 1 and 2, while the 2.7 ohm pair will be on chnls 3 and 4. if you are going to run 2 pair of the 2.7 ohm, you would want to wire them in series, to get a safe impedance at the amp.

Set the 2 gains independent of each other. Then, if one pair is louder then the other, dial back the corresponding gain so they are balanced in volume.

if it where I, i would look at front loading the new speaker as opposed to back loading recessed as they are now. This would allow for you to go with the same speakers throughout and keep symmetrical sound. Although those are both Polk, they do sound a little different. Not too big a deal when they are separated by the windshield.

I'm considering 3 options

Option #1 - use Polk mm651um's up front and mm651 in the rear

Option #2 - leave the old speakers in the rear and mount additional rear Polk mm651um's under rear seats

Option #3 - only install front speakers and forget about upgrading the rear

I got a chance to remove the mesh speaker covers in the rear and have a look, mounting mm651um's is not an option
