Quick question...

My current setup includes:

-OEM Sony CDX H910 as head unit driving 4 OEM speakers
-Jensen Power 760.4 amplifier driving 2 Wet Sounds PRO 60 tower speakers

OEM speakers are blown and I have 4 Kicker speakers to replace them with.

Question is this - can I add a 2nd Jensen 4 channel amp for the cockpit speakers AND a third amp for a 10" subwoofer all from the Sony head unit (which has only 2 outputs)? Is it as simple as spitting one of the outputs to send signal to 2 amps?

Am I loading too much on the single battery?

Thanks for any feedback

You can use RCA 'Y Splitters', but the voltage will be slightly less to each amp.
Some gain adjustment should counteract this...
You will have a decent current draw from 3 amps - especially if they're AB Class (prior to D Class) amp's.
If you listen to music with the engine off, I'd certainly invest in a second deep cycle battery!

The 910UI has front, rear and sub outputs. Thr front and rear are chassis mounted and the sub is a pigtail.

depends on how long you want to play with the engine off.

Thank you Wylie! I see that sub-out now in the manual!

So it looks like I'm good to go signal-wise then other than the 2nd battery concern.

We actually don't play music too often with the engine off because we're usually at the cottage OR playing in the boat tubing and boarding.

Maybe I'll look into a second battery afterwards - does anyone carry one of those portable backup battery units as an alternative?

Follow up question for the stereo techies who may be familiar with the OEM Sony CDX H910...

If I end up using the dedicated sub-output on the Sony hu, does it necessarily mean that ALL low frequency signal will be sent to the sub and high/mid frequency sent to front & rear.

Obviously with my set up using the rear output for the tower speakers, this would not work. I'm hoping this is something that is configured in combination of the amp settings and the hu settings?

Any ideas?

Im not sure i fallow what it is that will not work with your setup. You have 2 full range amps and a sub amp. The front and rear outputs of the head-unit are without a doubt, full range. I would have to dig into the specs, but IIRC, the sub output is also full range, leaving the cross-over filtering duties to the sub amp, which likely has a better setup. The 2 4 chnl amps will also take care of the hi-pass filtering.

Sounds good Wylie. That should allow me to run full range on the tower amp, high/mid on cockpit speaker amp, and low on the sub amp all independently. Perfect.

I'm reading through the CDX910 manual now...

Thanks!

Thanks for that...I have a funny feeling that might be how my tower speakers are actually set up on the power amp. I'll check the switches on the amp when I get the boat in the driveway next. The tower speakers weren't loud enough when originally setup and I think that might have been part of the solution (it was 3 years ago now so it's a little foggy). Maybe the two tower speakers were wired in bridged mode too if that makes any sense (the Jensen 760.4 is a four channel amp)?
