New stereo in new boat

We are a new owner of a 2002 245 sundowner can't wait to put it in the water. My questions to you are I am going to be running a sony cdx m60ui deck a 700.5 kicker amp and a 10 inch bazooka sub along with the stock sony xsmp-62 6.5 speakers. Has anybody used a amp that large and how did your batteries hold up and second how does a bazooka sub sound on your boat. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I just installed that exact amp with a 10 inch sub. Havn't had it out on the water since the install, but I did also add a second battery,Perko switch and onboard battery charger. The Kicker amp is a very nice unit though. You will love the sound. Brent is another member here who has the same amp also and said he gets about 3 hours of run time on it before killing the battery so you might also consider adding a second battery. Oh and welcome to the forum.

Thank you for the feed back we do have two batteries with battery switch. I have done some numbers on that amp amd with almost 900 watts total divide by 14.2 volts at full power you could be pulling 63.3 amps. That is alot I am hearing that normal usage would be at about have gain and approx 40 to 50 amps. Which I could see your one battery lasting about 2 hours during normal use. Does this make any sense to anybody. Also has anyone used a bazooka sub in their boat.

Note to self....... re-think the need at add amp and sub to boat. :wink:

Kills the battery in 2-3 hours, but then you just switch to your back up and chaarge the dead one on the way home. Not a big deal. PLus my charger is always pluged in when the boat is not is use so both batteries get a full charge.

Same battery set up in our boat as well. but draining a battery down each time you go out somehow does not sound appealing to me, no matter how good the music sounds. And it can't really be that good for the life of the battery.

I'm sure mine will last longer than the predicted 2-3 hours as I will no be playing mine at full blast 90% of the time. I just wantede something that sounded good even if at lower volumes. Marine batteries don't seem to last all that long anyway. Mind as well abuse it while you can.

BTW, I found a box of old amps in my garage. I'm going to install 14 amps in my boat with the stock sony's and drive around Michigan lakes at high speed until I blow them out...Then I'll install the JL 7.7's and 2 brand new Optima batteries because according to some, I may destroy the stock marine batteries.

I guess we are all a little different.

Just thought I would give everyone a update on the new stereo. I did go with the sony cdx m60ui with a alpine pdx 5m amp instead of the kicker, I am glad I did. Also two new polk 651.and the 10 inch bazooka sub. The system sounds way better then I thought it was going to sound. The bazooka sub under the rear seat sounds as nice as any sub I have heard thumbs up to bazooka for that.Also the alpine amp kicks a-- and is only 10x7x2.5 inches. I can tell you guys also with its new processor it does not use much volts at all very happy with everything and how it came out. I highly recommend that alpine 5 channel amp for size and power,75 watts rms per 4 and 300 watts sub.
