Wanting to upgrade/add to my current stock stereo on a H190. Currently have just the 2 stock speakers. Was thinking of adding a sub/amp and 2 more speakers. Want the amp to run the sub and 4 speakers. Does everyone use marine grade amps and subs? Any suggestions/tips on what I should set myself up with? If I install this myself what am I looking at for cost for a nice set up?

Thanks for the help!

I am running a Kicker ZX700.5 which is not marine rated, but if you mount it in a good spot where it will not get wet your fine. I love my amp and it is running 4 speakers and my 10" sub and does an awesome job. Pretty sure I picked it up on Ebay for a great deal brand new. My sub is marine rated as it is mounted under my rear seat as it was in my Four Winns. This area tends to get wet so I went with a Marine sub.

The only time I drink the "marine certified" Kool Aid is when its going to be in direct sunlight and water exposure. You do want to be sure that the amps are not located INSIDE the engine compartment though. I have marine Polk DB651 speakers all around and my two amps are in the backrest in front of the helm. I have 2 subs in boxes under the bench seat on the sides.

Thanks guys- there are so many amps out there it is hard to choose the right one. :) I think i might have to hit up the local stereo shop and see what they think. I plan on adding 1 sub and replacing the stock speakers and adding 2 more speakers. I was hoping I could do this off one amp however don't know if it is possible. My only concern is draining my battery while listening to music. When you wired your set up did they go directly to your battery or to your dual battery switch?

Thanks.

Mine is wired to the Perko switch. This way, it always has power available. Its no big deal though....I have listened for hours and never even been close to running down either battery.

Nauti Luv- thanks for the input. Your system looks great! Are you using standard marine battery's or deep cycle battery's? I think I will be getting the Polk Audio DB651 6.5-Inch speakers, just need to find a nice sub and figure out the amp situation.

I was looking online at subs and they range from $40-$300 for a 10inch.

Thanks

I am using 2 group 27 Marine dual purpose batteries. I used JL 10W3 subs....and cannot be happier. I love the JL's and I have been told by other people here that they love Wetsounds.

I just bought 2 pair of the Polk db651s off of Amazon. Good deals can be found on these speakers and from what I read on here I won't be disappointed. My next move is a sub amp (mono) and 12 incher. After much research I've landed on this... Alpine mrp-m500 (500w RMS) for $150 with an Alpine Type R SWR 1222d (2ohm) 500w RMS for $120. I considered a larger amp (Alpine m1000 which is 1000 RMS) but don't plan on adding the 2nd sub.

aguyindallas... due to the location of your subs are you having to deal with any vibration noises?

I actually have very little vibration trouble. The biggest problem was the facia panel in front of the bench. I took it off and put some foam weather strip on the full length. It did wonders for me.

Steve - Exactly. I need to do this before spring.

I'm waiting on my sub/amp to arrive. I plan to install it in the same place as you....(starboard side rear bench seat). I'm sure I'll have the same rattles which will drive me insane. I would like to see what Nauti Luv has done to remedy this.

Didn't both of you summerize your boats yourselves last year? Thought I read that somewhere and would like to watch this if you don't mind. I'll bring plenty of ice cold beverages !!! My address is Denton but I can hit an easy chip shot into Corinth.

Yes, I summerized my own last year and replaced the impeller. Piece of cake and I am happy to help/guide you with it. As far as the rattles....like I said, I bought some adhesive backed rubber weather stripping and put it along the entire length of the facia panel and reinstalled it. Very simple process.

Outstanding !!! I would much rather learn the proper way to do it rather than "tinker" with it and run the risk of messing something up. With snow on the way in a few days its hard to to imagine us on the lake anytime soon but did you already have a date in mind?
