Spent all weekend putting in the new amp (Kicker ZX700.5), sub, and speakers. I am using the existing Clarion factory head unit (XMD3). Finally got to the point where I could fire it up last night. When on the radio, the amp kicks right on and everything sounds and appears to work great. Switched to other sources on the head unit such as the CD player or the AUX input (my MP3 Player) and only the head unit plays (I left my bow speakers on the head unit). I get nothing from the amp at all with these other sources. Any ideas? I have tried flipping around the RCA cables and various switches--but can't seem to find the problem. I am thinking it might have something to do with the signal strength that comes from these other sources vs. the radio. Frustrating! Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Check the remote amp turn on lead. Sounds like you may have the power antenna wire hooked to the amp vs. the aux. power wire.

It's usually blue (industry standard). Mine is blue/white.

Thanks--I will give that a shot. I did hook up the amp remote turn-on wire to an all blue wire on the head unit. I'll look around in there and see if I missed one that is blue and white. I hope it is just something goofy like this.

I agree with Brent that this is the most likely cause. The power antenna is only when the radio turns on and is deactivated when other sources are used. You rarely notice this if your car has a power antenna, because it is outside the car and usually out of mind as well, but it is pretty universally set up this way.

I hope you are both right. I was feeling quite defeated yesterday after spending all weekend on this project. I could use an easy fix at this point. Unfortunately, it will have to wait until Friday since I put the boat back in storage for the week. Thanks again.

Looking forward to hearing if this was indeed the solution to your problem.
Keep us posted.
