I have a 2005 Sundowner 205 and I was wondering if there was a way to hook up an MP3 player or IPOD to my Clarion head unit? I see the RCA jacks behind the head unit, but there is not an AUX button on the stereo. Is this possible?

Thanks!

Unless you have an 1/8" input or usb input, it will be a little difficult but not impossible. I use a fm transmitter in our Excursion for the satellite radio and it works flawlessly. I have also tried it in the boat and it works just as well. Three additional boats rafted up with us and all could tune in . I'm not sure the make of mine, but I paid $6.99 for it at Ollies. Thats right, $6.99. It also works off a single AA battery if needed.

BTW, I would be very surprised if the RCA jacks were not "out going only."

Good Luck

Depends on which unit you have. If you have a CMD4 then you absolutely do have the RCA inputs for an mp3 adapter AND I have one to sell you if you're interested. But it should have an AUX button.

I bought one last year to add a second mp3 port at my helm (only have one in the cabin) but decided to use a bluetooth adapter to play my music. I'll sell mine to you for 25% off retail plus actual shipping.

Which clarion unit do you have? Its easy to look up to see if you have the AUX inputs.

This is what I have.

I assume he has no separate aux button, but pressing the source, tune, or band button (don't remember which) repeatedly will cycle through am, fm, serius, aux, etc.

Several of us here have added jacks (Cincy there might have been the first) and they work fine.

If you have the Clarion XMD3, the power button cycles through the different modes.

[ PWR ] button
• Press the button to turn on the power.
Press and hold the button for 1 second or longer to turn off the
power.
• Switches the operation mode among the radio mode, etc.

If it was me, I would go to Clarion's web site and download both the user's & install docs. My new boat has a NEW Clarion unit in it, with 2 Aux 1/8" inputs. It has one cd slot, MP3,bluetooth, sat, 22 watts per/chan, a very nice unit.

I upgraded my old boat, so I saved the old unit. When I traded it in, I pulled the new unit out. A Sony with a USB port & a HD radio add on with 2 remotes. The USB for me, is a must! Plug in a thumb drive & off you go, a Ipod is not needed.

So, with that said, I am pulling this new Clarion unit out CMD5. I will sell it to if you like?? My boat is a 2007, but a left over, never titled, with 11hrs. So, it's almost brand new, I have the box, never been opened manual and 1 remote.

Thanks for all the help, everyone! I was able to locate the RCA jacks that I need to use. Seems fairly simple, I know I will have to drill a hole. I am a little nervous about that. I would like to buy your conversion kit, Cincy. PM me and let me know how you want to do the transaction.

Drilling the hole really isn't a big deal. Select the location (make sure no wires behind, etc.). Cover the hole area with blue tape to help minimize splintering. Use the right size hole saw, and start with the drill in reverse. Run it at moderate speed until you're through the gel coat (about 1/16"). Then switch to forward and complete the hole.
