Very beautiful house and lot. Although I can see a few trees that need some trimming :| .
Here in mass it would be impossible to take them down, we need a permit to mow our lawns up here. Just curious if you have a little more flexibility in down there?
As for me I found it was better to ask for forgiveness than for permission..... :D

Well felling trees that are below the 1700' (elevation above sea level) is not legal since they are owned by Tennesee Valley Authority (TVA). I will do some selective "pruning" a little at a time to raise the canopy. If one is careful they don't get on you about it.

I found that the winter months were the best time for "pruning". It's been a slow process here
15 years in the making and ongoing. Our town checks google earth for "clear cutting". So for me
Patience is a virtue but well worth it.
Interesting rule of 1700 asl. So above the 1700 it's ok?
Here if you are within 100 feet of shoreline or considered wetlands it's illegal.
There's nothing like having your boat in your back yard. Good luck with the construction process.
Cheers....

Yes,
above the 1700 is my property and they can't stop me from cutting trees. I do want to keep a lot of trees but I also want to see the lake :) I did find this interestingdocument: http://www.tva.com/river/26apermits/pdf/vegman.pdf Looks like I can apply for a permit to cut some trees....

Sounds fairly reasonable to me, at least they understand that you live on a lake that it would be nice
To see it from your house.
I'm not so lucky here so fortunately for me a "tornado" touched down in my yard and cleared a
Perfect clearing from my house.
I can't forget the "beavers" also helped clear near the shoreline. I believe they were of the Husqvarna
Species. :D

My father lives on Lake Hartwell in South Carolina. It is a Corps lake so has a lot of rules about cutting. There is a guy in his neighborhood who basically spiked every tree in his yard at the same time (doofus). When you went by his place on the boat it was green all around except his entire yard which was dead. It was so obvious he got caught. Lost his dock permit for 5 years and he had to replant trees and pay something like a $5K fine. On top of that double decker docks are now banned on Hartwell (existing are grandfathered) so when he was able to get his dock back and repermitted (he had lent it to someone else on the lake) he had to cut to the top off of it!!!

Now if he had randomley done 1 a year he would be sitting pretty right now.

That's so crazy...seems to me if you clear some out and raise the canopy on others..the trees do soooo much better. Unfortunately the gov once again screws things up.

Good idea on taking one or two a year.

Allittle every year goes a long way. If you get to over zealous you end up like that guy
That had to pay a fine and replant trees.
It's ridiculous, but I guess we all have to play by the game.
Nice house... Lot... Good luck

Looks like a shack to me but if that's the best you can do...

Let me know if you need someone to sweep the floors!

Speaking of getting caught cutting trees, some guy bought a house across the street from Lake Michigan. Unfortunately, there were a bunch of trees so he couldn't see the lake. Apparently one night he cut them all down and had a prime view.

However, the city/county/state didn't care so much for the clear-cut and erected a LARGE billboard that read something to the effect "someone illegally cut down these trees". No more view but lots of embarrasment.

Now I can't imagine he could ever sell the place.

I was at the lake last summer, rode my motorcycle down and met with friends who rode up from Florida. We rented a cabin WAY up, but overlooking the lake and spent a day on a rented pontoon touring the lake. It is beautiful there, you are very fortunate!

And now 3 weeks later siding and stone work is done. Also inside they have done all of the tile in the bath rooms, heating and air, plumbing and electrical and security system all done. I expect tomorrow to see the roof on and hopefully interior finish work started...
