So My wife and I finally bit the bullet and bought a lot. 1.55 acres on Lake Blue Ridge in a gated neighborhood. I will have half interest in a 2 slip floating dock (it's a double decker with a sun deck on top) that I will share with my neighbor. I am planning to add a lift to the dock. We will break ground on a new cabin in October. My current cabin is now for sale.

So finally we will be lake people!
Anyone looking for a nice cabin in the N GA mountains?

Beautiful area well done. Your place for sale looks very nice is it the same general part of Georgia? From there to NC and Tenn is great spot to be in the summer.

Yes, we are 15 miles from Tennessee and North Carolina. If you look at a map of GA you will see the spot where all 3 states come together. Our lake is 60% national forest shoreline and the county is the most heavily national forested in GA. Appalacian trail, Benton McKaye trail, Ocoee whitewater, Natahalia whitewater, etc are all very close to us. We love the area and it is only 98 miles from my home in the ATL...

Our current cabin is in a lake neighborhood but we are not on the lake. We do border National forest. Our new lot is only a 10 minuite drive from our current place...

Thanks. If it was not for the bad economy I never could have afforded it.... Lot was on the market for $550K 5 years ago...

I thought you were already on Lake Blue Ridge and had a dock? Nice cabin and you may take a hit on the sales price but it appears you have already made up that with the deal on the lot. Good luck with the sale.

Really nice, that would be hard to find in NY, maybe parts of upstate NY but not here. I was lucky to be able to buy an older house after the last real estate crash in the late 80s in a beach community in Long Island. We have the harbor right behind our houses, our home is 370 feet from salt water. Nice view in summer, in winter it is panoramic I can see from here to Connecticut. Only draw back is homeowners insurance is harder to get and more expensive.

Thanks all. The good news is we bought our current cabin back in 2001 so we will likely break even and get out our equity...

Update! Our cabin sold and we indeed did break even. Not bad in the current economy. We moved all our stuff into storage units over the weekend. We have had both closings and they begin grading on my lake lot today! We hope to have a foundation poured in the next 2 weeks.

We have also applied for a dredging permit (along with our new neighbors) with TVA so we can make our cove deeper. I am getting pricing on lifts as well.

Hoping to move into our new house in January or February!
