Had the boat launched today. They called me an hour later saying "When we were launching your boat it kept stalling out. Would you like us to have a tech look at it so it's ready for you when you get off work??"

Seriously? I politely denied.

I hope this is not a sign of things to come or I'm moving elsewhere.

Whats the prob? Sounds like good customer service, unless you think they are BS'ing you in order to drum up business. But what if you get to your boat this afternoon and find there is something wrong? Fix it yourself, like most of us would do, but that only shows that the marina identified a problem for you, so again, good customer service.

It took them a month to figure out how to turn my OEM battery switch on, they kept calling me that my boat wouldn't start and if I wanted a tech to look at it. They were turning on the house system on the port side. It's clearly labeled. So much of a problem I had to goto the office and put a note on my key that the battery switch is on the starboard side. Later on I had them charge my house batteries, clearly stated the bank on the port side (that's labeled).

They charged the starting batteries on the starboard side (there's no isolator connecting the two).

There's nothing wrong with my boat. It's carb'd, you know they didn't give any attempt to warm it up or give it gas to start. It's been raining non-stop all week it can be tough to get going when it's been sitting in damp weather, gotta give it a little gas condensation gets all up in there.

Ah, I see. Some marinas hire kids to do the grunt work, and I bet they tell them that if a boat doesn't fire right up, they are not to fiddle with anything or try to get it to start, but instead to refer to a tech.

Yep I'm 100% sure they have a "no fiddling" rule. After a damp week it's always tough to get going. I love/hate carbs sometimes.

Having a one to one with the owner of the marina tomorrow. Fuel filter full of water, sand, and rust. That's the only place I purchased fuel from for the last 2 months. We're going to have a talk.

I wouldn't put up with that ric, especially given how much you pay each month to belong to that marina. Do they only sell one grade of fuel and if so, what are the other members saying? I remember when our club tried to peddle government mandated gas, it didn't take long for the word to spread of it's flaws and the sale of inferior gas ceased.

It has nothing to do with what type of gas they sell. In the last 6 month period I've totally gone through my fuel system out of preventive maintenance. Pumped out my plastic fuel tank fully, replaced the fuel pickup tube, anti siphon valve, fuel level sender, fuel lines, fuel screen in carb, fuel filter, and gas cap. All new with receipts to prove it.

Now for me to pour out a shot glass full of rust particles and sand out of my fuel filter?? Along with having to crank the engine to fill up the fuel filter, take it off, empty it 3 times to get the water out so the engine will start a week after I just filled up?

I am not happy.

We picked up salt water at a fuel pick up in the Bahamas about 15 years ago. The diesel tanks had a crack. In the end 120k in damages to the entire fuel system and twin MANN diesels were diesels destroyed. The 75' boat was down for 3 weeks. He had them instal 3 large Raycor filters in each new motor as a future precaution. It had single raycors before.

Get a truck and trailer. I've been buying gas from 2 marinas in Long Island and never had that problem.

Hopefully they will recognize they have a problem and fix it. Your circumstances (and plastic tank) should be pretty convincing. In the mean time, I know you have other marinas in Sanford you can go to. You could also bring a couple jerry jugs of gas each time you go out...even if they won't let you pour them it at the marina, you should be able to pour them in at another safe spot.
