We rented a pontoon this past weekend, it was a 24' Bennington tri-toon with a 135hp motor. Did great on Torch with 1-2 waves, much better ride than I expected. The Admiral, now thinks we need one. Just wondered what other have and or think. I know I need big, 24-28 foot as we'd like a 16 capacity. Also while the 135 motor did get us to about 30 mph, I want to go faster, 40 mph minimum.

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

There is a guy on Lake Norris right around the point from us that has a pontoon with a 454 big block in it. Sounds nice when he gets her cranked up. We were doing 30mph and he went by us like we were sitting still.

they sell a bunch of Bently pontoons around here with `150-350 Verados on them and some will get up and go.. A deck boat will go faster and ride better than a "fast" pontoon for the money.. i assume y'all are wanting the vast amount of cockpit space party area and kid caged area..

There used to be a tri-toon on my lake with a 250. Would fly by me with 10 people onboard like I was standing still, leaning with a pontoon out of the water taking corners. It was sick.

I had the same thing happen to me this past spring. I had a h220 frenzy with 5.7 DP, wakeboard tower and almost every option. Awesome boat, then blew my back out at work. Doc says no more wakeboarding. I had been eyeing the new toons, they aren't your grandpas toon anymore. The new ones are amazing.
So I traded in the frenzy for a 14 Bennington 2250 gsr. It's 24'3" with extended front and rear decks. Sea grass flooring, led lights, raised helm, co-captain lounge, changing room, etc. because I'm not doing Watersports anymore I went with a Yamaha 115 with sea star hyd steering and lifting strakes.
It does 28gps. If you want to do Watersports go with at least a 150. With the strakes it handles chop better than the frenzy.
We love the toon! Tons of room! I think my favorite part is no more trailer and launching. We have a wet slip. Didn't want to keep the frenzy in the water but with an outboard and toons it's no problem.
I say go for it! We don't regret the change!

DeWitt's has one for sale with Twin Evinrude E-Tec 300's. It is incredible put sides on it and it is like some of the nicer custom motorhomes, but price is $72,495.

I should have specified that I am trying to stay under $40 and at least 15-16 people rating and willing to go used. I like the lifting strakes as well after doing some research.

My parents bought a used 2001 Bennington that had been slightly abused. With a little work that thing is very nice and the upholstrey is pretty much impossible to tear up. They are a really well built boat. If it were me, I would seriously consider looking for one. Theirs is a 20' with a 2012 Yamaha 70 hp 4-stroke that Dad put on it. With just me (195 lbs.) running trimmed out it will push the boat around 25 mph. Not a speed demon but it runs nice and sips fuel unlike my gas guzzler.

Because your looking to carry that many people on board I think you need to go with a tri-toon. The extra log adds a lot more buoyancy and extra capacity. To move that many people at 40mph your going to need a big motor.

I have a 2011 bennington 22 G series and we love it. I've got my four Winns to do watersports and get my speed fix. It has a 4 stroke Honda 50 on it and that's all we need. So quiet and smooth while under way!
Each to hs own regarding horsepower but I would definitely recommend a Bennington.

We have one here on our local lake (also runs the Ozarks), that if speed is a concern, it wouldn't be with it... She's got triple 300's on it, and does 90+ mph... Not sure I'd want to go 90mph on a pontoon (it's actually a tri-toon), but hey, at least he can...
