Sales tax gets VERY expensive when you do that...I did for a few boats. Sold 3 for more than I paid even.

Boating in Florida is not a luxury, and is priced as such. In my office of 20 employees 5 have boats, and out of that 5, 3 have multiple boats. When you can boat 365 days a year and surrounded by water it's not a big deal. I can imagine living in Canada where you can only go out on the water 3 months a year owning a boat is like being married to Miss. Universe.

Buy private party not from dealers. I'm not saying you bought the boat for $1000, but it might say that on the bill of sale.

Most boats 318 and larger are brokered, or through a dealer. 7% of any amount upwards of 100k, hurts.

I waited a while, so as not to appear too negative.

The 2007 IPS equipped boat has 2 EVC systems, one for each engine/ drive . I have had enormous problems with a low hours 2009 boat with one EVC system, ( wiping out the whole 2014 boating season for me), that's an apparently an improved EVC system compared to the one used in 2007 ! Do I need to say more ?

Selling a boat that lists for 90k and putting on the bill of sale you sold it for anything less is Fraud, pure and simple. The government may not catch you today or tomorrow - but they will catch you someday when you least expect it. You can either hire an attorney to defend you for 2x you would have paid initially (if you win) or pay 10x what you would have paid in the first place, and end up watching others boat from a cozy 8'x8' for a while - or from home wearing the most fashionable anklewear the state can provide.

So - how will I get caught you ask? either the state reviews the paperwork and raises a red flag (unlikely - but not highly, most states are overworked and just glance at the document - but others go off computer based input and will red flag for anything beyond a certain percentage of valuation) OR - the person who gets that windfall for the boat has to report it somewhere. 10K you might get away with, but 89k? Someone somewhere is going to notice that money. Be it the state, Feds, or an ex wife - and they'll have to come up with something. Which will then lead back to you.

Back to subject - I asked about the IPS at a boat show. The rep told me - it's great - if you have the money to maintain it.

I'd like to see more of this kind of boat....
Keel drive Shamrock, simple small block Chevrolet, carb equipped if you like, Velvet Drive direct drive transmission, closed cooling, but with better engine access than they typically had. This is the kind of boat you could have for years, the repairs are simple, there are no high tech specialized systems that are only available from the OEM, and it can be maintained/repaired by ordinary mechanics. I got into a big thing with a certain someone over at Iboats, about carb vs EFI, me extolling the advantages of carb and pointing out the disadvantages of EFI, he is narrow minded only sees his view, despite the well documented problems with Volvo fuel pumps for EFI and some Merc issues as well. He is a moderator there but I could care less. I know that I am right.
I like simple. It keeps the boating budget from becoming a 'problem' in the family budget.

The newer boat will depreciate faster than the older for the next few years. The Diesels will help slow the depreciation of the older boat.

On the flip side, diesel exhaust smells, chev's are simple to work on, and the 2010 is pretty sexy.

Good luck!

Do you want a plump Kansas housewife or do you want a 23yo lingerie model? Because that's the choice you gave us.

Come on Ric, most of us freshwater Great Lake boaters (both US and Canadian) can at least use our boats from May to October each year. Out of curiosity though, does that mean if we were married to Miss. Universe that we could only enjoy rides between these months? :)

If you want to move up again, go for the 355. 378 is HUGE. Separate freezer and fridge in the galley....

You forget I live on a 310mi long river that's a boater's paradise. All I know is freshwater boating. I wouldn't touch saltwater if you paid me.

As far as the Miss Universe goes.. you only get to enjoy rides 3 weeks out of the month ;)

That 355 is a nice looking boat. It's sleek, nice colors and has a great interior. I currently own a 2008 V288 and love my boat. The 355 will be on my short list when I decide (can afford  ) to upsize. I prefer sterndrives for all the reasons mentioned in the other posts, and I can do most of the maintenance myself. Have fun choosing ...

The price looks reasonable and only 50 hours. Given a choice between this and a 2007 378 with IPS drives, which would you take and why?

So which one do you like? Have you looked at one yet?
