Well that's retarded. Let's compare 22ft boats. It's $62,000 for a stupid Chaparral jet boat that can kinda surf and not wakeboard. OR. You can buy a Moomba Outback V that is a bad ass inboard powered wakesurf and wakeboard boat fully optioned for $52,000.

Am I missing something here? How does less cost more?

exactly my thoughts

forward drive could prove nice.. higher speed handling is where i am interested. aka a higher speed slalom course and cruising..

My concern with the forward drive would be when you're backed up to a beach. A lot of folks tie up close to shore with stern in, and the animations indicate the prop is a little lower than the hull even in the trimmed up position.

Like Ric and Jdpber mentioned, I would rather own a Moomba or Nautique if I was in the market for a nice wakeboard boat.

^^^^ I back in like listed above.. i set the boat to the depth where the ladder can be down with someone standing on it and a wave rock and the added not hit bottom. This tends to be about 2 feet of water and is plenty find for the girls to get in and out. My drive is up and no where near the bottom and i love this. In my regular positioning i could see the reverse props smacking the earth.

I think a prop strike would be worse. With the normal duo props the drive case will protect from smaller objects. Larger objects like rocks are never good anyways but a floating log could be disastrous with this setup rather than a quick bump and a prop ding. Something small like a 2x4 might even get caught and cradled and mashed up tearing up everything. Good times....

Yea, imagine bumping something along the bottom of a lake with this thing.

You are going prop-first into everything, even if it is just sandy/muddy lake bottom, it is going to chew up a couple of expensive props! I love the idea and really wish wake-surfing were an option for me, but I would be terrified anytime the water was less than 6 feet deep.

I agree that this forward drive would be *completely* nerve wracking for anybody who ever gets into slightly shallow water, or ever operates where there is any chance of floating debris. On the other hand, it would be nice to not have to shut down every time someone gets close to the swim deck.

Upon further review...I am thinking that this is not any more of a risk than on a v-drive boat, which is the segment they are trying to compete with. I have not heard of that many v-drives dragging a prop or smacking a log (although I have not really been on the lookout for those situations either). I really do like the concept. There are definite advantages of the forward prop.

So, this is really isn't that big of a surprise. It seems like the next logical step in I/O evolution.

Does anyone have insight on the cost of this vs. a DuoProp?

It seems the transom assembly and upper drive are essentially the same as the typical VP units today with a new lower unit.

I can't imagine this would be much more expensive than a regular DuoProp.

For a ski boat? This is more amazing than a v-drive hands down. This is the winner. Done. Volvo gets the trophy they win.

For a daily driven boat? Hell no. I can wreck my lower on my alpha and pay $500 for a new bottom end. $500 won't even get you one prop on that shit.

The new drive has it's place and I personally think (without surfing behind it first hand) that it will murder the v-drive market. The counter rotating props solves every every issue in the wakeboarding/wakesurfing world.
