So the hub diameter is almost the same, you went up in pitch & are wondering why it's slower to plane?! :?
A higher pitch will generally equate to a higher top speed, with slower plane time...

No I expected something to be different...just not that drastic, and not all three - hole shot, top end, and rpm's.

And I also expected somewhat less performance from the aluminum...again why would anyone want a stainless prop on this configuration of boat? 1 238 with 1 5.8fi and a SXCobra...I can't see how that prop would help anything...but then again I really don't know much about props...so please enlighten me. I believe they are for better performance...but maybe really only go fast boats.

You obviously do not have the HP to turn that higher pitch prop'.
Stainless steel prop's can have more rake, sharper leading edges and generally much stronger construction over alloy.
Even with chubby pleasure boats, this will equate to better performance.
Try sourcing a SS prop of the same pitch & diameter as the old alloy one.

I've been using the same SST prop for 21 years, and it still looks like new, even after hitting plenty of floating debris. Had it re-hubbed a couple year ago to go from OMC spline to Volvo spline when I got the Four Winns. So it has now cost me about $13/year. Not too expensive.

maybe you're right about the hp, but the fast facts from four Winns say that the 1996 238 Vista had a 14 1/2 x 19 from the factory.

I have always has the SS prop on her since I bought it. Why did I want to change you ask? Lake mead has been dropping steadily and ever time I go to the lake I see a new island pop up hitting debris is one thing...hitting a rock wall that is just 2 1/2 under is another... I don't want to pay for a new drive..rather bust a skeg and a aluminum prop...make sense?

So I had a SS and went to an aluminum with no noticeable difference...except piece of mind if I hit something...I say worth it.
