We're looking at getting a new boat for the 2016 season (which means Shiraz will be for sale!). I'd like to know if anyone has a suggestion for a 3 stateroom boat? We want the kids to be able to bring friends on board overnight, without the need to sleep on a couch or fold down a table. Ideally I'd love two kids rooms, each with bunks - but a 1980 48' Hatteras is the only one that found like that, and that's a bit old and big for my liking. Currently the options look to be:

2000 Sea Ray 420 Aft Cabin (lots to choose from, but I don't like the raised dinette, and to get the third bedroom you lose the washer/dryer)
2001-2003 Cruisers 4450 (might be out of our price range, but looks like a great option if we could afford it)
1996-1998 Carver 455 (Looks like a good option, but a bit older and only a few on the market, and none local)

I might be off in the years a bit. I dislike the idea of going to a cored hull, but it seems during those years everyone did it, so a detailed survey will be in order. I'm even wondering if I can modify a 2 stateroom layout into a 3 (take one queen room and add a wall w/single beds or bunks). The whole idea is to keep the kids coming down to the marina as they get older. If none of the above works, we also have our eye on a 2001-2003 Cruisers 4270 - 2 bedroom, but the kids room has two beds.

As you can see, it's still wide open. Any idea's or thoughts about these boats or others I've missed would be great.

Steve.

How old are the kids? Just buy them a small cuddy for themselves.

Well at this point you might as well get an H440. Sleeps 6 comfortably and has a bow to hang out in.

They are 8 and 10 - not quite old enough for their own.

I like the look of the Leader 40, but it's not 3 separate rooms and likely way out of my price range. I'm looking for something ~15 years old and < $125k

With that budget, you have VERY limited choices. Might have to make do with something like a Carver 406MY.
Two separate staterooms, but with aft deck, and settee's in the cabin, it's almost like having a third/fourth stateroom.
This one belongs to some people we have boated with before. Really nice layout, but not a vessel to get to your
destination quickly in.

We don't expect to go fast, we're okay with that. I do want diesels in a boat this size, which will help push it along a bit faster. If I do end up with a 2 stateroom boat, the second room has to at least have 2 separate beds. Can't tell one of my kids they have to sleep in the living room.

Yep - the 4450 is my great, there are some at the $150k price point, which leads me to believe they could be bought for $125k - if the seller really wants to sell. My worry is that the ones that are pending sale are all listed higher than that, so maybe there are issues with the ones at $150k. Ideally, I'd like to buy in spring 2016 - but if I can get a better deal in the fall of 2015, to save them putting their boat away for the winter (assuming a northern boat) then I will.

This is my favorite, but it's a long trip to the great lakes from there: http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1996/Ca ... ted-States

Haven't seen that one before - if I give up on 3 staterooms, that's a good option with separate kids beds. Thx!
