I love Norris Lake in TN--but I live in Greater Cincinnati and the 3+ hour drive one-way to go boating is taking its toll on me. I am not wild about Ohio River boating and would love to find a decent size lake closer to home. We've spend years on Cumberland and Laurel in KY as well.

Has anyone boated on Lake Monroe near Bloomington, IN. Looks to be about 10K acres and very deep. I would love to hear from anyone that has tried it and get your feedback. Thanks!

I grew up spending time on and around Lake Monroe. My parents still boat there almost every weekend in the summer. It's a nice clean lake, but it can get busy. There are very few places for Indiana people to go boating, so they go to Monroe. It's not a deep lake, but it's plenty deep for any boating activity. I've gotten use to the 100' to 200' depths in Missouri/Arkansas. We would typically launch at Cutright SRA simply because it was easy to get to and usually quiet. Cutright also has a very large no wake area, so you can just float and relax or you can venture under the bridge and go WOT. Once our day was done, we would pack up and drive through Bloomington to grab dinner and then head home.

All in all, since you haven't been there, you should go at least once and form your own opinion. I've never been to Norris, so I can't compare the two. Once you've been to Cumberland or Dale Hollow, it's really hard to go anywhere else! I also really enjoy Rough River Lake in KY.

Hope that helps a little! 8)

I used to trailer my 268 there all the time. We'd launch at the ramp off of 446. Real nice wide, deep ramp with ok courtesy docks. Pretty large lake, half of it is no wake zone but still very large. Very busy on holiday weekends.

We really enjoyed our trip to Monroe a few years ago and plan to visit again someday. Like others have said Im not sure how Monroe compares to the lakes by you but if you're like us and enjoy a change in scenery from time it's worth checking out. Here's our trip there http://www.boatinglakemichigan.com/2012/10/monroe-reservoir-bloominton-indiana.html
