Here is the blue Cobalt 246 on ebay. The auction ends in about 3+ hours if anyone is interested: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221717457139?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

The blue one sold for only $17,301

However, I found a prior listing from when this owner presumably purchased it. Was then listed for $39,900 and was in mint condition: http://www.avidboater.com/sections/sear ... balt%20246

The blue one would have been considerably less than the green one I am buying but I still think I am making the right call - better engine, cleaner, one owner, stack of service records, half the distance away, etc. If I had the money though, the blue 246 would have been a good boat to buy, clean up and then flip in early summer.

It's better to find the best condition boat, even if you have to pay a little more than book vlue for a cream puff. But I think Blue Book is about $22-23k on that boat anyway. If your going to keep it a long time, then who cares about a few extra boat dollars for the right boat.

Thanks for encouragement. My buddy has similar sentiments saying "The blue one was cheaper but I'm not sure it was a better value, and in boats, that's a subtle but important distinction."

Congrats on finding a deal! Glad your getting traffic on CL too, I'm not seeing any yet, but my boat is a relic (part of the problem)

Are you traveling to tow it back yourself?

It sure is hard to find the boat you want!

So far, only the two have contacted me but I thought that was pretty impressive within the first 24 hours and still ice on the lake. I am sure interest will increase on yours once it starts getting warmer.

Yes, we are tentatively scheduled to pick it up the weekend of April 11th...I am getting really excited.

No doubt about finding the boat you want that also meets your budget as well. If everything is right on this Cobalt, it will fit our needs Just like the Larson I posted about but for half the price. I seriously looked at thousands of boats for sale with some being over a 1,000 miles away.

Have you found the Formula 280SS you have been looking for?

You are not kidding about the budget issue.

I am currently trying to work out a deal, the owner is being sort of a pain, says he has multiple interested parties and the boat isn't even available for viewing yet. Saying that he wont take a deposit and reach a tentative deal to give all parties a fair shot.

All which is understandable, but I am ready to buy now, willing to put down a $500-$1000 deposit to ensure we have a deal, pending that the boat fits the bill of the photos and the communication, a satisfactory "to me" survey and mechanical inspection of course.

Overall sort of frustrating to me, simply because I have a month of orchestration to complete a deal, priority number one is getting storage in the location that I want.

Time will tell! hopeful this week will shed some light on if I have a prospective boat or not!

its not, its in NY

there are no local 28s current. the only one i have seen is with red strips/interior accent and its priced extremely high for a 2003, plus I really cant do the red.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your budget and other criteria? I can keep my eyes open for one if you'd like.

Where in NY?
If in the Hudson River region the lower part of that (south of West Point) is somewhat brackish water.
Anywhere around here (Long Island/NYC) is all salt water...

Well that's way up there for sure. I do recall though that when we had Hurricane Irene in 2011 there was a lot of flooding upstate. We have a lot of wind and rain here but not much flooding, not at least what Sandy brought which was an epic storm. Ten foot tidal surges that came in at a lunar high tide. That means that the water levels were 17 feet higher than a normal low tide.
