Post subject:  New Boat!

Hi Guys! I am looking for some insight...I sold my Horizon 180 a few weeks ago and am in the market for a bigger boat. I looked at a 2004 H210 but that deal didn't work out. I have recently found 2 boats from different manufactures and was hoping for some feedback. Both boats are 2004 model year, one is a Regal 2120 Destiny and the other a Stingray 220DR. Both boats have a 5.0L V8 the Regal a Volvo and the Stingray a Merc. Both boats are priced similar and come with trailers. The seating in both is pretty close to the same as well. Both have pump out heads and come with full canvas. The regal only has 120 hours where the Stingray has approx 400hrs. The regal seems to have been maintained a little better than the Stingray. Any thoughts on either of these models/brands?

Regals are a couple of steps above Stingray in most regards.

Given the choice and assuming all things are equal, I would take the Regal.

What model outdrive does the Regal have?

I believe it has an sx drive.

Both of these are Deckboats. Different animal from an H210. As long as you do your boating on calm, flat inland lakes, you should be fine. Not good boats for choppy conditions. Must be the added cockpit and bow space that lead you to looking for a deckboat rather than runabout.

For me, it would be hands down, the Regal.

Without question, the Regal.

Thanks for your feedback guys! I appreciate it. I wasn't really looking for a deck boat but like Clambake mentioned the added space and the fact that it has a head compartment were two things that drew me in, my wife especially! For the most part my days on the boat will consist of water sports and lounging at some local lakes close by but we do however Vacation in NH on Lake Winnipesaukee for a week or two every year and as the locals know, this lake is big and can get pretty nasty sometimes. My H180 handle it very nicely for such a small boat. So that would be where my main concern would be. I think though with the added length of the boat and weight that she will still handle the water fine just not as smooth? I think I am definitely leaning towards the Regal myself. I will keep you posted with my decision. Thanks Again!

Here's a thought no one has mentioned...that stingray weighs 3811 lbs! (the regal is 3400lbs) add the weight of the trailer, fuel, and personal items...you are getting close to the 5,000 lb towing limit of that jeep. I like Regals better as well.

You'll have to change your name on here too "4WINNS4ME" hehe

Those both look like V-Hull boats. Assuming the same "V" as your Horizon, then they should ride just as smooth, or smoother because of the added length and weight.

It is the lowered bow entry that limits the size of waves you want to get into. Most lake chop is just fine, but huge waves on the very large lakes or ocean would be a bad idea. Also, when you are passing over the wake of a "Rodney", you need to keep the bow up and usually move the passengers to the back temporarily.

A "Rodney":

Only if he has the V6 in the GC.

Our GC with the Hemi will tow 7,400 lbs. I hardly knew the Monty was behind it, back in the day when we had a boat...

Well I went ahead and made an offer on the Regal. Unfortunately I won't know for sure until the spring. The boat is all wrapped and winterized with the outdrive removed. My offer is contingent on the owner making it water ready in the spring as well as a proper sea trial. It's going to be a loooonnnggg winter! I will have to think of a new user name..lol! I appreciate all your help!

Yep. Brought it home from storage end of May, listed it on CL for kicks, sold in less than 1 hour.
Buyer picked it up next day.

Funny story behind the sale, shoot me a PM if you want to hear it.
