It's about time for a new cover for my 2000 Horizon H240 (1996-1999 style).
Boat is stored outdoors on trailer in Florida Sun and Rain.

What are your recommendations for boat cover and supplier? What's the best I can get for approx $500-600?

Ray

Opinions?: Covermate vs Taylormade vs WestLand custom fit Sunbrella Covers.

For my Horizon 240
I see a Taylormade custom fit Sunbrella 9.25oz boat cover for $619.99 on iboats.com.

also see a Covermate custom fit Sunbrella 9.25oz boat cover on Overtons for $849.99, but I think they have a 20% off sale today.

Price for WestLand cover seems to be $650 range also.

Any opinions on one brand vs another? Any experiences with these companies. Do they offer options for acrylic or better thread?

Same cover you were looking for 3 years ago? Or something different, you got even less response then. I have had 2 Westland covers. Nice.

Yep, same cover as three years ago. I guess I have been patient

The Westland Sharskin (3 yr) is $368.99
The Westland Sharskin Plus (5 yr) is $367.99
The Westland Sharskin Supreme SD (7 yr) is $419.99
The Westland Sunbrella Custom Fit (10 yr) is $624.99

Now to decide between the Sharskin Supreme SD vs Sunbrella 9.25oz. Do you think the the Sunbrella is worth the extra $200? Primary concerns here in Florida are:
#1 Intense Sun / UV
#2 Rain / Humidity / microbial growth

All I can add is, we had the Westland Sharkskin Plus on our SR cuddy for 9 years. Boat was never stored inside. It was either in the water or
on the trailer 12 months per year. Handled everything Michigan weather can dish out.
The cover looked like it would last another 9 years when we sold the boat.

OK, I just ordered the Sunbrella Westland Custom fit cover from iboats. They recommended Sunbrella for the Florida conditions. They just gave me a $30 discount (ordered over the phone). Free shipping.

Thanks Cap'n

I have a Taylor Made canvas cover I bought about 8 years ago that I use for winter storage. So far its held up pretty well, last 2 winters it had a LOT of snow and ice on it for months.

I would buy a Carver canvas cover. I purchased one several years ago and it is still in good shape after baking in the Nevada sun. It was not cheap or even moderately priced. But it has outperformed many synthetics and sunbrella covers.

I had ordered the Westland custom fit Sunbrella Cover in Pacific Blue. It's due to arrive tomorrow in a 23 lb UPS package. I'll post pictures when it's on the boat.

Although the OP (me) has ordered a cover, I certainly invite others to keep posting the good and bad about any covers (material and brands) for future readers.

I can say that the Four Winns cover that I had (appeared to be a coated canvas) did not hold up in the Florida Sun. It only lasted 3.5 years, and some of the stitching had to be redone after 2 years. To be fair, it was 12 years old when I got it, but it had never been used and looked brand new. Now it's very chalky, no longer waterproof, and much more stitching is falling apart.

I have gone to shrink wrap for off season cover, no chaffing, waterproof, windproof, UV protection, rodent proof, theft deterrent..... And the boat when uncovered is as clean as when we put away for the season, unlike the canvas covers that let dust in. This solution may not be for everyone, but sure has been the best outdoor solution for us the last 8 years.

For curiosity sake, I contacted our local canvas shop and priced out a canvas cover for our new 15' jet boat..... $950   So I am sure that I dont want to know what a canvas cover would be for a 26' Aft....

That's crazy expensive, I got the cover for my '88 H-200 which is custom cover made to fit and it was less than $300. I found it in either a West Marine or Overton's catalog, I forget which....
I just got done putting together the cover support system I have made over the years for the cover so that snow and ice don't cave it in. Takes about an hr to put it all together, then I drag the cover over it and that's it. To shrink wrap I think its about 300 for this size boat in my area so in the 13 seasons I've owned it I figure I've saved about $3900 less the cost of the cover vs doing shrink every year.

I have used an Classsic Accessories cover the last 2 years in Wisconsin weather.http://www.farmandfleet.com/products/63 ... del-b.html It has held up nice so far. I think I paid around $125. I had to make a center support for it so it would not sag, but that was no problem. I use this cover for during the week. During the weekend I use my snap on cover.

Here's the frame I put together a few years ago and the cover. I've had this one 8-9 years. The support system works pretty well. I do try to get the snow off of it when I have time.
