NEW HD series from Four Winns

This is perfect for someone who lives near the coast like I do. We usually boat on an inland lake (where my family has a house) but live within 5 minutes of saltwater access.

Yep it is. Perfect for my boating area. I don't think I'd ever get a newer I/O here because of the cost of replacing the cat converter exhaust. It is REALLY pricey. Some guy on the bayliner board just when through this. Salt water use. Parts were over 3 grand. Unfortunately the 'civilization' of I/Os via EFI and cat converter exhaust has removed their less expensive to repair advantage over OBs. So if both are expensive to repair, give me the one that takes a half hr to winterize and will not freeze if you can't get to it during a cold snap. Only way I'd have another I/O here is if its old enough to not need the damn cat exhaust and if it had closed cooling and a remote oil filter. No more crawling around the bilge to reach those plugs....or oil filter....

I will point out again THE GIANT stage in the transom where the IO is supposed to go. THIS is amazing in my book. plus it overall is a very well thought out layout. other than not being conducive to fishing this is a very very good layout that is hard to beat in a OB in this length and price. Yes you have pontoons but its a pontoon lol. then the deck boats are heavy and ugly, Next you have the Center Consoles that tend to lack the seating BUT are conducive to the ruff water and fishing. I feel that with a ski and tube pilot/mini tower above the engine and some rod holders that this boat could fit every thing that i need.

So true Lou! I'll be the first to admit, the OB hanging off the transom isn't the prettiest thing in the world, but aesthetics aside, if I can do more boating 5 minutes from home as opposed to 45 minutes, I'm all for it! I've been sort of looking at this style of boat anyways. The Chaparral Suncoast 250 and SR Sundeck 270, but the Four Winns is much better looking in my book.

When I/Os were a lot cheaper/simpler to repair than OBs, they made sense. Now when the repair costs are about the same, why would I want something that requires that much extra work every year? Don't forget to factor the extra cost of winterization and drive service into the cost of ownership. I do it all myself but there is going to come a day when I don't want to do that any more. The little Suzuki OB we have for the Walker Bay boats is just great that way. Oil change, lower unit oil change, it self drains and DONE!

True, but as usual, Four Winns is a bit late to the party. Other builders have offered similar boats
for several years. Just two of several brand available.

Sorry, but the biggest attraction to my boat was the huge swim platform. Sometimes I have 10 kids on my boat and most of the action is on the back (sometime even diving off the front). I do not want an OB in the way.

I guess that means there is a market for both types of boaters

Yep both types have their fans. The swim platform and sun pad are really nice on I/O boats. I'll take the OB though, because of my boating conditions.

ideal situation i would have 5 boats and that is probably how it will be as i am gearing up for a Fishing boat build after i finish the FW redo. for me i need as follows.

a kayak for fun fishing hunting (got it)
A small fishing boat (got it)
a larger fishing boat
a bowlder for the family on the lake (got it)
a mid to upper 20s center console for fishing and family in the salt water.
and i could use a 30 foot trip toon to party on the lake ( one with a party roof and water slide and a bar and killer stereo)
and finally id like something that 2 couples can weekend on.. like a 35-45 foot sea ray OLDER model or something of the sorts. not too slow but does not need to do 60mph.

FInd me one boat that does all of this.

well the new HD covers a LOT of the needs of a person like me. and in the circles that i run in, people demand multiple applications for an investment.

the HD covers many needs of an individual that has a family, friends, space needed, size, OB for the salt... no it is not the number one sexy boat one the market but it covers a lot of the application areas without owning 9 boats.

You seem like you have never seen an outboard powered deckboat of this size before. It's nothing new. Their HD series is the replacement for the woefully ugly Funship deckboats. There will be 3 or 4 more models out shortly. The HD270 is just the biggest and first in the series.
Deckboats have always covered "a lot of applications", now you have at least a half dozen builders with I/O and O/B powered deckboats in their lineup.
Southwind and Huricane have been building boats just like this for decades in various lengths.
