Our 40 year old floating community dock on Lake Norman, NC is made of steel and concrete, has 24 10 foot wide slips and has grandfathered status; that is, we cannot enlarge, or change configuration, or move, but are encouraged to maintain and improve it in its existing configuration. We are considering allowing the homeowners to install boat lifts. Our Board of Directors has vetoed anything that attaches to the dock, i.e., HydroHoist. Does anyone have knowledge of a good lift system that does not need to be attached to the dock? Each slip has an electric outlet. |

From the same website as HydroHoist, how about the HarborHoist model? Ties to the dock with conventional moorings. http://www.boatlift.com/product/harborhoist/ |

Depth of water is 5 to 9 feet. Thanks for the link rpengr but those lifts don't look like they and they could fit in a 10 foot wide slip. Our dock cannot be modified to accommodate anything that will not fit existing size of 10 feet. |

There are cantilever lifts that would sit on the bottom and don't require being fixed to the dock. The 10' width might be an issue for some styles but not all. Here is a link to one manufacturer... http://www.naylorsystems.com/boat-lifts.html Another option would be to install 4 wood piers and a hoist system like you see all over Florida. |

What about those that have pontoons that submerge? |

TX H210SS, The ones we have seen must be attached to the dock (like HydroHoist) and each adds several hundred pounds of weight to the dock; multiply times one lift for 24 slips, adds tons of extra weight to dock not designed for it. |

alex8q4, four wooden piers, or metal piers that don't attach to dock sounds like the only option. I will look for a manufacturer. |
