Oh, and on a different note, is that actually a 2 by 4 board turned on its side as a keel block? Not to be picky, but I don't like that either.

It's a 6x6! This is a vista 298. The scale is weird in some of the photos.

Update:

I opened up a claim with my insurance company... They sent a surveyor out today, and he doesnt believe the blast job was anything out of the ordinary, and will not pursue the claim further.

Spoke with one of the most highly regarded fiberglass guys in the area. He mentioned that the burnout on the strakes is totally normal, but the hull should not have been texturized as it has. He will be going out to the yard today to give me an estimate.

The yard will do two coats of interprotect HS at 34.00 a foot, and multiseason antifoul at 20.00 a foot. for a total of around 1350. Im not sure 2 coats of barrier is enough!!!

also, since boats are behind me they want to charge me 217 to move and reblock... UGH!

So...

Geico would not back up my claim. The surveyor report said that the job was not done well, but its a step that most owners don't see, and after the hull is painted, they would never know. The report also says that only a small amount of gelcoat was removed, and the voids that opened up were actually air pockets created during the manufacturing process.

I brought in an incredible fiberglass guy, and was quoted 11k for repairs....

With that said, I cant afford the 11k.. after lots of thought i went back to the yard to have them finish the job... 2300 to strip paint from transom area, 2 coats of high-build barrier, and 2 coats of CSC.

i must say, Im NOT HAPPY with the barrier application. They didnt strip anything on the transom that was left after blasting. they put 2 coats of barrier over 14 year old antifoul...

Did you by chance have a lot of blistering? If so, this might have been the right approach and least costly. If not, this has got to be the sorriest example of how to prep your boat for bottom painting that I have ever seen.

no blistering whatsoever.

The term hasn't come up once in any discussion.

Agree lawyer

Also that surveyer was retarded, I've shown this to my dad an ABYC certified among 3 other global certifications, and he said that no way would this have ever passed the OK approval. This needs to be brought up in court or sell the boat as this work is horrible. Secondly find a new yard as these people do not know how to do anything remotely close to amateurs work let alone professional work.

I can do a better job in my driveway. This is simply a dis raise to the boating industry for them to cal this professional work!

Agree on all of the above. They did not even fix the damage on the strake that you can see there which is not a difficult repair. The problem with hull blasting is that it is hard to find someone who knows what they are doing and will take the time to do it right.
Even one of the best paint & glass shops on LI could only recommend one company to me when asked about it. I decided to have my yard guy just pressure wash off the loose stuff and feather sand in the bare spots. We may then go with an ablative as long as the remaining hard epoxy anti fouling is in good shape. It's a chronic problem with boats that were painted every year with the old school hard epoxy paints.

UGH!! You have had one big headache... and what's up with painting right up to all the metal components? Hope that paint doesn't have any copper or other metal minerals....

They are supposed to apply Interlux CSC.. which i assume has copper in it.

On the interlux website it states they use less copper with their new formula but still use copper. If they do paint all the way to the metal components I would go back and sand the edges so it doesn't touch when they are done. You can get corrosion from the 2 dissimilar metals.
