My Sperry Gold Cup 2-Eye boat shoes are 4 years old and I have been very happy with them but I am not shelling out $180 for another pair. I paid $85 for them on sale but haven't seen a price like that for ages so I am moving on. I like the style of the Dockers Vargas boat shoe but does anyone wear them and how do they hold up? Also, any other boat shoes out there that are under $100 and of good quality?

Sperry's are always popular but can be pricey (one of the reasons I don't on a pair).

I haven't tired the Docker's Vargas...here are a couple of options:

West Marine's boat shoes are fairly popular. If you can catch them on a sale, they are a great deal. I have yet to own some as my local store never seems to have my size when they have a sale.

Personally, I like the Sebago Covehitch. I'm on my second pair (several years on each). You can occasionally find a deal on them on amazon or catch a sale at other places like West Marine.

I'm fairly picky with shoes so I know it can be hard to find a good shoe at a good price (esp for us guys).

2nd vote for Sebago's. I bought a pair on Amazon a couple years back for about $60-70 and they are my favorite shoes. FYI Sebago and Sperry are both owned by Wolverine Worldwide.
Last year my wife bought me a new pair of Sperry's at one of their outlets. I think they were around $75. They are okay, but the Sebagos are still my favorite.

Thanks for the replies and the Sebago Docksides Leather (brown oiled waxy leather) is my style. They have great reviews too and look to be of better quality that the Dockers.

Bought two pair of Rugged Shark shoes early last year, one a casual canvas slip on the other a leather slip on...they have a unique rugged construction and well under a $100 on amazon, with may styles including traditional...could not be happier with the ones I bought.

Sperry Bill Fish series.. i think i have like 12 pairs. i buy a new pair around Thanksgiving BELK sale every year. cycle them graded from best to worst. worst are yard work shoes and then about 6 or so pairs i cycle red and tan for the office. By cycling multiple pairs they last forever and they have time to dry so they dont stink of FOOT! i think i pay like $90 and this is my main shoe if i am not in flip flops. Rainbows 2 pairs oldest is about 15 years old and newest is about 10 years old. then i have 1 pair of running shoes, Tux shoes, 2 pairs brown dress shoes, 2 pairs black dress, snake boots and rubber boots. But i always have a spare pair of sperrys in the car and from someone that has been in sperrys.... oh lawd over 20 years now. i would not do anything different. Until i can start wearing flip flops int he office. Oh i have a pair of tan crocks to schlep around the shop in and i will use on the boat because they float, no marks, cheap, and functuional.. UGLY as hell but who cares if they are for a function..

As for the gold series i stopped geting these and transitioned to the Bill Fish probably 10+ years ago when it was introduced SIMPLY BECAUSE the the insole is superior comfort.

Actually, a lot of the fisherman swear by clogs. Protects the toes, good water drainage and non-slip but definitely not my style.

I just got back from Belks and the have the Sperry Bill Fish on sale for $99 (maybe when I move to the ocean). I just bought a pair some casual styled Dockers but want to order the more formal Sebagos online for $66. Does anyone know if they run true to size because i had to buy the Dockers 1/2 size bigger? Thanks.

Down here in Australia, bearded, espresso sipping, skinny jeans wearing (rolled up, above ankle), vegan hipsters usually wear these type of shoes.
They usually ride their single speed bicycles right in the middle of my lane.

Just sayin...

In my experience the Sebago's ran true to size where the Sperry's are smaller.
