I am considering buying a used 2002 214 Funship with the Volvo Penta 5.7GI/DP motor in it. It has 600 hours on it, and used on fresh water only.

Please share you experiences with this motor.

Thank you

I have the 7.4GiDP 1997 year model. It has over 800 hours on the setup, and the only problem I have had is the ethanol fuel usage. Now use only the non-ethanol fuel and runs great.

In freshwater these will last a long time but it is 16 years old, thats a lot of time that the maintenance needed to be done every year. Just forget winterizing one time on a raw water cooled engine and its all over if the weather was cold enough. Ask to see records. The things that people do wrong:
1) shortcuts in winterizing
2) neglecting to remove the drive yearly
3) neglecting to replace the exhaust gaskets and check the risers when you see any sign of rust at the riser/ex manifold joint.
