Considered to be one of the most beautiful cruising destinations in the world and so close to many of our members, let's use this thread to compile information about this magical place

Haven't been to the north channel yet, we boat out of southern Georgian Bay, look forward to everyone's insights who have travelled up there.

The last couple of years we've met up with some boats from Southern Georgian Bay near Midland and plan to come visit them someday soon, are you anywhere near Midland?

We launch in a small town called Spanish, Ontario.http://www.townofspanish.com/spanish-municipal-marina/
It's another 3 hours (179mi) past Mackinaw City but the benefit is that it's located the closest to some of the most beautiful anchorages in the North Channel like the Benjamin Islands. Spanish Marina really caters to the trailer boater and has ton's of parking for your truck and trailer. The launch is not usually very busy, is plenty deep for larger boater's/deeper drafts, and there is lots of room to stage your boat for the trip.

It also has a really cool lookout tower looking out towards the Whalesback channel

The first year we trailered up there we launched in Detour Village Michigan which is only an hour past the bridge. http://www.detourvillage.org/detour-public-marina.html
It is also very easy to launch and store your truck/trailer at Detour Village as they have many boats going to the NC launch here. The big difference here is you have to check into customs once you land in Canada and if you have issues with your boat in the NC, your truck/trailer will technically be in another Country. This happened to us the first year we went up there, we broke down just past the international line in Meldrum Bay and were trying to figure out how to get back to our truck....luckily I got the boat fixed and we continued on with our cruise. There is a Tow BoatUS service on nearby Drummond Island now but there wasn't the year we launched in Detour instead on Spanish.
