Post subject:  New boater need advice

Looking at buying a 1991 235 Vista..It is at the marina being "checked out" by the "experts". I should know by Monday what, if anything, is wrong with her. If all goes well, I will have her in the water in Grand Haven by Friday. Anything I should look out for with a boat this age? Any advice for a first time boater?

Welcome to the board ! Not familiar with that particular boat. But with something of that age, the stringers may have rot, engines and outdrives could be tired. If you are haveing a full survey (hull and engine) done, it will find these things if they exist. Great to have another West Michigan boater on board. Hope to see ya on Lake Michigan. :D

Get a survey!! Best money you'll ever spend on her. Even for an experinced boater. Include the engine in your survey. A survey will also alert you to what maybe "OK" now, but not for long. Best of luck.

OMC or Merc power--if it is OMC I'd avoid it because the later model King Cobras are hard to get parts for. The plain old regular Cobras are not hard to get parts for by comparison. If it's Merc, no issue, but a boat that age can have rot, be very careful to have it checked out for that as well as mechanical problems.
