Post subject:  Fresh/Salt Pros and Cons?

Being tempeted by a bud to head to Galveston (bay) for reds in Sept/Oct.

Should I take my boat and what to do after it's salt trip? Will it void warranties? destroy my boat? etc..

I have looked on web, not much info out there on this subject. Some say NO, some say go ahead, just flush well. Help will be appreciated as usual.

I run my boat 99% of the time in salt water. From what I have read on this forum, the hull build up seems to be the same whether salt or fresh water (without bottom paint). As for the engine and outdrive; when I bought my boat, it did not have fresh water cooling so it was important to me that it was run in fresh water only. I installed a FWC kit before I ran it in salt water so the engine has never seen salt. The outdrive, heat exchanger, and exhaust are exposed to salt water, but that's the price I pay for where I play. I have friends that run in the salt with no FWC. They flush real well after every use and have had no problems. I believe there are flushing products to help neutralize the salt and its effects, but have never looked into it. I'm sure someone else can help you on that. I do not think running in salt water would effect your warranty but that is a question for your dealer.

Saltwter use will not void your warranty.

Flush your motor and you will be fine. Don't worry, enjoy your boat, that's what you bought it for!
