Question for everone out there.... Some of you clean/detail your own boats - some of you have it done I'm sure.

In your areas, what's the going rate for a wash/buff/wax/detail for boats out there? This would include a general cleanup both inside and out. This does not include any specific touch up or significant hull clean activities (other than mabe a pressure wash).

I seem to recall about 10-12 bucks a foot - but I'm curious as to what the going rate is around the country.

It's $12-$15/ft here in Central Florida. Personally (and this may sound weird), I find cleaning and detailing the boat relaxing. It serves me as "mental downtime". As long as there is cold beer while cleaning and Advil for the evening... I'm good!

We charge in the $12-$15 range depending on how bad the boat is and what it needs exactly. If it needs buffing all over its going to go up a bit.

That's about the typical rate out here too. Most of the time I don't mind doing it. But this past summer I had way too much else to deal with so I paid to have it washed and waxed. My only complain was a bit of wax on the canvas and some switches. When you make the mistakes yourself you overlook them, but when someone else does, it seems like your eye is always drawn to it.

About $8 per foot here. I would not pay for it on a new boat, it would take less than an afternoon on a new boat like yours, and besides, it gives you the opportunity to get up close and personal with your new baby!! You know, a labor of love type thing. :)

In your case, the reason I would do it yourself, is you can see for yourself if there are any knicks or scratches in the gelcoat. A service provider might not mention every little imperfection that he runs across. Also, spending that much money on an investment like that, I would want to know every inch of that boat before I launch it.

I just paid $ 650.00 for a lousy wash/wax/detail.
