While I am not extremely familiar -- I did look at lake property on Norris last year --- (I eventually bought lots on Watts Bar --south of Norris and on Keowee in South Carolina) My opinion was that the water on Norris was beautiful -- except for when it goes down 25 feet in the winter -- The area is still not very developed -- and some of the waterfronts are still a bargain at the $150-200,000 range -- (last fall) other lakes I looked at were much higher --
I think Norris would be a great lake to be on if you wanted the fewest people around you and pretty summertime boating.
sorry cannot add more --- it is a pretty area.
thx -- Dale G -- West Palm Beach

I boat there ALL THE TIME. Sorry I did not see your post sooner. Have you gone on your trip yet? Where are you staying? Deerfield? If you haven't been there, you will LOVE it. Lot's of lake but has more of a river feel to it as most of it is less than a mile wide. It is comprised of the Powell and Clinch river which join together about 10 miles from the dam. I've covered most of the lake and I believe it's almost 100 miles from one end to the other.

During the week you can find calm water any where and weekends get fairly busy however you can always find a nice cove to swim in. Water temp last weekend was 86 degrees and it will stay in the 80's until sometime in October. If you go to the memebers photo are you can see my boat on Norris. We are going next week. We have rented a house near LaFollette. Have spent a couple vacations on Cumberland and decided on Norris this year for something different. Any must see's or things not to miss. We have a boat and 2 seadoos with us.

Best Marina - Shanghai, great restaurant (and hand dipped ice cream!)
Best Restaurant - Nordstroms at Hickory Star Marina

Make sure to visit the "Big Lake" on the Clinch river side of the lake... it has a very different look than the rest of the lake.

If you want to eat at a restaurant in town and like Mexican, you have to go to "El Pueblito". I know you wouldn't expect good Mexican food in TN, but this is good.

If you like golf, Deerfield resort has a nice course.

I will be there 7/14-7/17 with family (wife, son 3, daughter 19 mos.) and we stay on the boat. We are in the slip every night at Shanghai... feel free to stop by and say hello or call us on Channell 16 "Noack's Ark" if you are there during this time.

Bill

Tom,

It's navy/white with navy canvas. Enjoy!
