I finally picked up a Garmin 546S and the transom mounted transducer (which provides the speed, depth, and temperature). In looking at the picture (Fedex man has not arrived yet with it!), I am thinking that the hole in my transom that I have to cut (above the water line) is the size of that connector. Hard to tell the size and it does not look like it separates. Has anyone installed one? If so, how big a hole and what did you use to seal the hole? I was thinking I need some sort of rubber gromet to protect the sides of the cable against the fiberglass and use some of the 5200 to make sure it is water tight. |

I dont know the connector size, but yes you want to drill a hole above the water line, and use 4200 or 5200 to seal it, then install a clamshell of the wire. Like this http://www.discountmarinesupplies.com/Ventilation-Clam_Shell_Vents.html |

Jeff, I like the clamshell, never thought of it, but have seen it. I was also worried about the wire rubbing on the fiberglass. Searching for some sort of rubber thru-hull gromet too or is that not a concern. |

I wouldn't worry about it, the 4200 will stop any of that from happening. |

What a timely question. I just installed a 535s with the same transducer. Its a 3/4" hole you need to drill. I put it well above the water line. Fill it with 4200 and put tape on both sides to let it cure. After its cured add more if you need to, then cover with a stainless steel clamshell. I don't use the screws with that, just put some 4200 on it and tape it in place until it cures. No reason to put any more holes in the transom. |

After reading up about drilling holes on Al's boat-project website, I put a coat of epoxy inside my transom transducer hole before the wire went through and filled it with 4200. Just a little extra insurance to make sure the coring would not get any water. |
