pulled sending unit out. wires are chewed up .my question . is the wiring harness grommet molded to the wires or do wires push thru? need to pull new wires out to sending unit if they are molded looks like a PITA to get to the grommet |

Yes and yes, a pain. Don't pull the grommet out till you get a new sending unit. That goes in a small hole in the transom mount that can let water in the boat. What my tech did was to drill a hole in the side of the transom mount so the wiring can be run out the side of the transom mount and then up the transom like a transducer cable. We left the old grommet in the transom mount and cut off the old wires. So now i can change the sender in about 5 min instead of struggling in the bilge jammed between the back of motor and the steering arm where the OE wiring comes out. |

the sending unit itself is good. it was stuck in the up position from sitting for so long . did an ohms test dont want to buy new yet .I have about 2 inches of wire after the grommet so I am going to try and repair it while i have the drive off . if i cant im going to do it like yours thanks for the tip |

Yeah if it reads right just fix the wiring. I found that the OE ones lasted about 2 seasons here in salt water. |
