After spending another 3 hours on this, there is a break in the 'UP' trigger/ switch wire, somewhere under the floor!
I dismantled the handle, cut & pulled the switch wires through to under the dash and tried hotwiring the switch wires.
The down works perfectly, but not the up!
I'll buy some 16AWG twin core cable & perform a new run down the starboard side of the boat to the new solenoid.
What a pain in the @ss!

Re-wired and working like a charm!
The ACC blanking plate was replaced with a momentary ON/ OFF/ ON, DP/DT rocker switch which seems to work fine.
I managed to get a refund on the new reversing solenoid, so the OEM one is back in action.

Glad you found the break. Knew it had to be somewhere.
Only thing that made sense and you don't need to change or work around that relay pack.....

Hi Deafwish, I wrote a long detailed response. I must have done something wrong because when I tried to post it, it disappeared. Hmm. Anyway, thanks for the tip. I read about your wiring trouble. I'm glad you figured it out. If mine begins to do anti-social things, I'll know where to start looking.

For the record, I didn't find the break - I ran a new figure 8 cable to the pump.
