Hi , It's so long since I charged a battery.
Years ago I had the old style chargers. No choice of power select, just a fuse. So, old style you had to disconnect the leads before charging.
Do you still have to do that with the chargers with microprocessors. In the instructions it says nothing about discontenting the battery first. Just want to be safe.
Just purchased a Schumacher 15/8/3 amp charger to make sure battery is in good state for summer.

Generally, no you do not need to disconnect the battery. Onboard chargers are used to charge batteries all the time. I would avoid having the charger connected and charging while the vehicle's charging system is also charging the batteries. This may happen at times such as when jump starting, but should be limited in time and engine rpm so the alternator does not put out its maximum amperage in addition to the battery charger's output. I would avoid prolonged use of the "boost" setting on the charger.
