Well, my Kohler 4cz ran great last week, this weekend it will start and stall right out. It will do this continually.

I cannot (easily) check the oil level; but I added 1/4 quart just to see if some kind of low oil switch was being triggered. Turns out, my unit doesnt have one anyways. Go figure.

SOMEthing is telling the circuit board to not let the generator run. I have great water flow and the sea strainer is clear.

Right now I have the control panel taken apart. Ive read something about a capacitor going bad. Any suggestions on where to go from here?

Hi Technologic....

The Kohler on my Vista378 has been driving us mad for months. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It was worse on choppy days !

Have a look at the spark plug,,,does it look red and dry ?

Mine was, indicating fuel starvation, and they only found the issue today.... a faulty sensor in the bottom of the carby that stops flow of fuel when genset is off.

They applied 12volts to the solenoid and sometimes it worked, but tapping it made it close.

Mine has issues also. Most of the time when started it wont come up to speed, just runs rich and finally bogs down
and dies. I have to open the engine hatch and manually work the throttle and then it will run all day. Tried to take
the carburetor off, the darn screws are sooooo tight I gave up.

Different model, but I had a bunch of issues, turned out to be burnt valves... Sometimes it would start and other times it wouldn't

Well, got it running today

What did it take? Disconnecting the Low Oil Pressure switch. After that, started right up.

I also took the opportunity to change the spark plugs (SEVERELY fouled), and change the oil. I ended up overfilling the oil slightly (Pro tip - dont add the specified amount of oil to the crank, in my case 1.48 quarts AND fill the oil filter). The extra oil blew out of the PCV hose onto my air filter and saturated it with oil. Now I need a new one of those in addition to an oil switch.

I swear every year this generator costs me $100. But anyways, Im glad to have it running again.
