I bought a 16' roll of LED strip lights with 3M adhesive on them to light up the interior of our boat. The two courtesy lights were just not giving us enough light. I cut the length of lights in half and installed 8' on each side of the cockpit. I put them on the fiberglass, under the lower panel that keeps things on the shelf. I was going to install them on the bottom of the panel for indirect lighting but decided that if I wanted to remove the panel it would be more difficult to do so.

This is the kit I bought.

Using the provided remote, you can select a lot of preset light patterns, slow them down, dim or brighten the lights and on and on.

There is a sensor on the wiring harness that has to be visible to the remote. I used the courtesy light power in the front of the engine bay to power the LED lights, so a good place to put the remote sensor was right behind the plastic lens for the stock courtesy light. I drilled a hole through the stock light, stuck the sensor in it and used RTV to hold it in place.

Lots of soldering and shrink booting to get it all to my satisfaction. If anyone wants detailed photos I can provide those next time I uncover the boat.

If you have the tools and everything needed to do the job it is a cheap mod to set your boat apart from the rest. :)

With all of that said, I found these after the fact and would have bought this kit even though it was out of my budget for this mod. These lights are COOL!

Very nice! we installed the same lights around our arch. Super easy install and they run off of 12v, so they got their own switch and fuse. For around $16 you cant beat them. Even if they only last a season or two, it will be worth it. We like all of the color options and they even fade from one color to the next. Great for playing cards at night time.

Nice i did all blue last winter and I plan to replace with a similar RGB set up so that i can network with the DJ mix feature of my HU and have the lights change with the beat of the music and go thru programs.. the still blue is nice on the eyes and ringing things but having an endless selection of color choices is nicer and for minimal dollar i figure why not while i have the interior all apart this winter the light wiring will have to be re ran anyways so it is logical to me....

GREAT job. i love cockpit LEDs it sure makes an evening cruise that much nicer..

I'd love some pics of the sensor mod, and how you soldered/spliced/shrink wrapped the connections. I'm having a hard time visualizing where you cut, spliced and soldered.

I just ordered the same kit the other day.
