Well, you bought the wrong brand boat if you're a wiring hobbyist. Or the right one maybe. Four Winns wiring is designed by middle schoolers on a budget with no training. Maybe they fixed that in your year vessel.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The best boat made would be Four Winns styling with Chaparral wiring.


I'm not concerned about my wiring that I'm adding. I have been a licensed electrician for the last 28 years. A hobbiest ...... Lmao I think not. In terms of manufacturers wiring I really don't know as I haven't had the need to go over it with a fine tooth comb but I have to presume it is up to marine code. Perhaps it meets bare minimum code but really that's all they have to do.

Dong........ LOL. Bare minimum should prevent any safety issues or fires. Sure a person can over engineer.... Yes that is a bad habit of mine and that's not a bad thing but u have to remember that unless it's a custom unit I'm guessing most manufacturers meet code and dont exceed it too far.

FW doesn't use weatherpack connectors, tinned wire, bus bars, or resettable breakers. They just daisy chain crap wiring with crimp connectors and blade fuses that corrodes to hell within 10 years causing all sorts of electrical issues. I think even Bayliner has better wiring.

I say FW doesn't use that stuff, because my 2003 Chaparral does (as they all do). They use an automotive style harness and are fully wired for all accessories (ordered or not).

From the Four winns specs.... Wiring harness with sealed connectors and tin coating for corrosion resistance...... Perhaps they don't use breakers or bus bars... or perhaps they do as I haven't physically investigated. Perhaps things have changed since u had your 2000 Four Winns. You "could" be partially correct, or perhaps your not up to speed with current models. Thanks for the input however.

That would have to be for the newest of boats, up til the mid 2010's they were still using walmart wire and half crimped connectors.

I had a 2007 V258.

The wiring was undersized and most of the connectors were not waterproof. To add, they don't use marine wire. At lest on the boat I had.

It troubles me to admit it, but the wiring on my 2009 Vista is disappointing; there are some wonderful waterproof connector blocks in the harness and waterproof fuse holders. There is some strange wiring though and there are no factory wiring schematics available ( at least, none available to dealers or customers). I am rewiring the battery circuits on mine. Other things will need rewiring as well as various components gat a "phantom" 8- 8.5 V supply from somewhere even when the systems battery switch breaker is off ! The forward bilge pump wiring can never have worked !

I will have a look for curiosity in the spring. According to my spec sheet waterproof connectors and tinned wire is used however I will verify....... Fortunately if issues arrive years down the road there isn't a lot to rewire.
