... the switch from analog to digital TV, we decided to buy a converter box. (Why get one for free when you can wait 10 years and buy one!) Purchased the iview 3100stb which if the box is accurate can do everything except make coffee. I looked behind the our tv, saw a Radio Shack A/B box with three cables going into it, a Shakespeare(?) box with an antenna cable going into it and a tube carrying more cables to the back of the tv. My simple question is: How do I hook up the iview converter box? |

I have just reworked the TV cabling in my 318 Vista and can answer that. The Radio Shack A/B splitter is used to switch the signal input between your arch mounted antenna and the cable hookup point in the transom locker that contains the shorepower hookups. The output of that splitter then goes into the Shakespeare box which is a signal amplifier - from there it goes via the ducting into the antenna in on your TV. Easiest way to do this to run a new short fly lead from the Shakespeare into the IView (kept in the current galley locker) and then use a standard red/white/yellow AV lead into your TV (via the existing tube) so you would now watch the TV via the AV input on the television. Only hassle with all of this is that you need line of site with the IView for the remote to work to switch channels e.g. keep that locker door open when watching TV)). On my install the Convertor box was velcroed to the back of the TV and mounted low enough that the remote could see the reciever point on the box. In reality - much simpler to buy a new 12V HD digital TV and swap out the TV and use the existing antenna cabling. |

BTW, liked your suggestion about the 12v TV but current TV is 110 so new TV would require rewire, correct? |

If not, where do I connect the new lead on the Shakespeare box? Also I'm assuming the panel behind the TV has to be removed, correct? |

Correct you could just use the same flylead (would be a bit long but could be coiled up). then just run the red/white/yellow from the new STB through to the existing TV. My boat is an Australian delivered model - so local agent installed 12V TVs here along with a Set Top Box. In my 318 the TV is mounted on the wall above the galley hotplate (backs onto the Head). So for me it was easier to grab an inexpensive 12V HD TV. |
