Thought I would throw this out to you experts. The depth sounder on my 1999 200 horizon with the infamous VDO gauge cluster has become intermittant. When you first turn on the ignition it displays normally then after starting the engine it will only display dashed lines (----). Any suggustions?

Is the transducer clean?? I would go over all the connectors and use dielectric grease on them.

The transducer is clean, I tried that right away. I only found one connector from the transducer to the harness in the engine compartment and checked it. Whats wierd about this is it works with the key on and all through the engine cranking but as soon as the engine starts and the key is released it shows the dashed lines. I was wondering if there is a rely somewhere that switches the power source i.e. from battery to altenator after engine start.

Check you ground connection and make sure it is tight. I'd also make sure everything back of the VDO Cluster is tight too. Welcome to the world of FourWinns VDO clusters.

I have checked the connections at the cluster and I thought the ground was common to the entire cluster which is working properly except for the depth sounder. Thought about replacing the transducer but if it's bad you would think it would be bad all the time not just after engine start. Has me baffled!!

Check the voltage before & after starting. Are they the same?? If not, try another POS feed point, than another ground point. You could try, powering it directly off the battery.
