No stupid questions right?

On my 258v the panel has a charge switch. Does that have to be on to charge bats with the shore power. Regardless, What position should the bat selector be in....off, both, or the battery I want to charge (#1or#2)?

Also just put in a new #2 bat and it is not working. How do i test for wiring issue or bad charger connection.

When on shore power, always have the charger breaker turned on. It will charge batteries, regardless of what position your battery switch is in.

The battery selector, when the boat is nt in use should be in the off position. That said, it doesn't hurt to be in the 1 or 2 position. The both position is for emergency use only....as if you were to run both batteries low enough that they could not start the engines. You would put the switch to both to combine the batteries power to hopefully get you started.

Any ideas How do i asses the issue with the dead new battery? Wiring problem, or something simple? Thanks!

Disconnect it and put a meter on it to see if it's actually dead. I'm betting it's a connection issue some how.

You can use a meter to see if its dead. But if you read 12V, the battery could still be on its way out. It takes a fair amount of power/amps to start your engine and the battery may not have it any more. You could pull the battery and bring it to a shop & do a load test on it. More so if it is older that 3 or 4 years old. A replacement might be needed.

Clean & check all connections & cables for corrosion. Replace as needed.

The #2 batt was replaced but not working....Grand Valley Marina in Grand Haven Mich replaced it just last week.
SUspect the connection as noted before.
