Folks, here in the Northeast currently, the nats are a nuisance on the dock, day or night. I bought a couple of citronella candles, but was chastised for buying them and thinking of using them on the boat, due to the open flame. I have a H210, so the engine is enclosed. Not like I'd have the candle in the engine box, but what's your folks take on using these on board? |

Can be fighting mosquitos and other bugs like crazy at the dock, or on the hook, and within 30 min of firing this thing up, we're bug free, even with the cockpit lighting on.. |

Never heard of those, but they get great reviews online. Was going to make a screen for the cuddy cabin doors, but those have used it, do you think it is necessary with these aboard? Perhaps put it on the floor of the cockpit? |

Would not recommend using them in an enclosed space, especially a cuddy, as they are butane fueled and therefore produce CO2 as a product of the combustion.. Edit: just re-read your comment, and in the floor of the cockpit probably wouldn't be bad, I'd recommend the dash maybe.. They have something like a 30' "zone" (maybe not quite that much) around them that they work to keep the bugs away... |

If I remember right they have like a 10-15' range of use. I will have to look. But I know when we sit around the campfire we use one and the bugs never bother us, so it might be more area of coverage. They make accessories for it so you could hang it. The back can get hot, so I am not sure you want to set it up against somthing. |

We set it on our counter up top and have not had any issues.. It does have feet on the bottom to give it breathing space. I would not probably set it on your vinal, but a hard surface, generally speaking I think should be okay.. |

It may be overkill, but I wonder if putting one on the bow near the hatch cover (perhaps hanging off bowrail) and one on the floor of the cockpit would work well for us. That way the two ways they can get in while we sleep are protected. |

I would say just putting one near where you are going to be would be fine, just make sure you have good ventilation because of CO2. |

Anything with DEET works well. Very well. Very inexpensive. Even the gnats hate it. The higher the concentration, the longer it works. I prefer the stuff that goes on dry. It's been proven safe and effective time and time again. They don't recommend it on infants, but I think it's safe to use on children over 2 months old, but you gotta make sure the kid doesn't start licking the stuff. Tastes nasty though, so most children would only do it once. |
