I can trump all of you. Last night, -26C and with the windchill, -40. I hate winter. And this is warmer than it was last week...

Now THAT's cold.

It's pretty depressing when I've checked the Alaska weather report and it's warmer than it has been here. Where's global warming when you really need it. On the plus side, when all of this snow melts it should raise the ground water tables.

Damn.......I'm so aclimated to the South now. I grew up in MI and WI. Just thinking of those temps makes my teeth chatter. You guys are going to laugh your arses off, but below 40 degrees is now cold to me. I know, it's crazy, but when it's 110 in the summer here you guys are enjoying a nice 85 degree day. 8)
On a side note, I went with Walt's recommendations and purchased the "danforth" style of anchor, I believe he called it. I bought the kit from BassPro. Here is the link:

That looks exactly like my anchor setup, it should work out well.

I think I'd take the 110 in the summer since we get high 90's with 99% humidity anyway. What's another 10 degrees or so when you're in the water.

There's good and bad to TX, just like anywhere I guess. The problem is when your on your 65th day of consecutively going over 100 degrees it can get to be quite a drag. The worst also is going outside at 10 or 11 pm and it's still 95. That's when I really miss Wisconsin and Michigan, but not so much in the winter.

Come to Kansas, we have the worst of both worlds. Houston in the summer and Minot in the winter.

Yeah, I must say at least in the DFW area it's usually not as humid as Houston. My wife is from the Houston area and never wants to go back.

*Update* I ended up getting the Super Hooker Kit from Bass Pro:
http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10205178_225006001_225000000_225006000_225-6-1
I got the #8. Overall I am very happy. It fits perfectly in the bow anchor locker and holds very well in mud (Lake Lewisville). Also used it out at Possum Kingdom, varying bottom and it worked great there as well. I just have to be very carefull hauling it in as I've already dinged the bow of the boat with it. A coated anchor and chain would allow me to be a little more sloppy putting the anchor up, but not sure it would "bite" as well.

Edit: Updated the basspro link since it had changed.

Also wanted to say that this was the right anchor for my boat, it's worked great in the past 2 summers and as long as I let out enough rope/rode it holds very, very well.
