Isn't that the truth! I started just replacing the washers and nuts on the side bunks, and next thing you know I'm grinding all the rust off the side supports. A two minute project turned into a lot of work!

Mike, if the nut and bolt are stainless steel, you will not be able to remove them without applying anti-sieze to the threads prior to assembly. Stainless steel is actually a soft metal until stressed. Stainless will lock up or gall against itself. The bolt will shear before the galled threads will release.

We learned this the hard way some years ago installing high pressure threaded process piping at a Coca-Cola syrup plant. The piping was assembled with pipe dope instead of anti-sieze. The result was many leaking joints that could not be dissassembled or re-tightened. :oops:

Very interesting. What you've described matches what I experienced exactly. I'm aware of galling issues with things like stainless firearms mechanisms, but had never heard of this issue with stainless nuts & bolts. Thanks for teaching me something new!

Cin, are those the FW standard tabs or did you go aftermarket? I want to put a set on my 260 but am wondering if I want to order through FW or just get the Bennetts.

Cincy, I'd worry more about those boat buckle straps fraying due to contact with your tabs. (Maybe it's just the pics.)

That one pic is deceiving. It barely touches the trim tab which is completely smooth and rounded off on that edge anyway. Been on there for about 2 years, towed thousands of miles and not one thread has frayed.

Those are stock trim tabs.

Around here, we're supposed to check for weeds and other auqatic growth that may be caught on the boat or trailer, before dunking in another body of water ......

Umm ..... you may want to do a similar inspection.
