Just thought I might chime in on this one. I use a aluminum Fortress anchor in soft bottoms where it holds great, the crud slides off super easy and doesn't wear you out bringing it in when in deep water. With that being said I've also had problems getting a good set a couple of times in rock bottom lakes though. If you don't go to rock bottom lakes predominantly I'd go for the Fortress with 5/16" chain it makes getting going after pulling up anchor so easy and you never get any mud in the boat. Mine (7lb)fits in the anchor locker of my H220SS perfect.

I ordered up the chene anchor. I'll let you know how it goes. I ordered from Gander Mtn since I have a local store, so if I don't like it, I can return it. I'll let you guys know how it holds when I get it and have a chance to use it.

WOW you guys anchoring in lakes have it made. Here in the Columbia river I have 25' of 1/4 ht chain and 250' of rope. This is to anchor in 10-50' of water. This area will really make you appreciate chain you can't have too much or too much scope on your rode. I once had to use a 50lb anchor and 500' of rode to hold in 30' of water, and that was with my 15' aluminum fishing boat, almost had the boat on plane while at anchor.

So, the chene anchor arrived on Friday and I ended up returning it today. I never really gave it the chance as I had another anchor come into my possession for free. I did try the chene at the sandbar with 10-15mph winds and 1.5-2' waves. It did hold fine in the sand bottom. The trouble I had was that it still didn't fit in the anchor locker and the factory edges were quite sharp (granted I could grind them down). I can't really say one way or the other if the chene anchor lives up to its name. It did seem fine, but I couldn't pass up a free danforth. Who needs 4 anchors on a 20' boat too? Back to the store with the chene. I still want to know what the heck size anchor that FW designed the anchor locker for? Thanks for all the suggestions/advice.

I'm a big fan of anchor chain also since I spend a lot of time in the ocean. I have 25' of chain and 200' of line for my FS214. As long as I have enough scope, the stock anchor has been fine.
