i'll be towing my horizon 190 this summer on some NOt-So-Great roads and was wondering if anyone has had some sort of cover made that would give just the windshield extra protection from stone chips ? i suppose the windshields are hard to replace (or impossible) especially for older boats? i can see that i could attach something with the top snaps but bottom hold downs would be an issue? thanks- bk

Do you have a mooring cover? That would cover the windshield. Personally I would be more concerned about stone chips on the sides of the hull. I use one of those towtectors to prevent or limit chips in the hull

I just use the cockpit cover... never had a problem and have towed thousands of miles the last couple of years.

i don't seem to have a cockpit cover? do i see snaps along the bottom of your windshield to make this possible? mine only has the snaps along the top of the windshield-no snaps anywhere else- not even on the bow for a cover.

You could have a canvas shop make covers for you that cover the bow and the windshield, it's a bit pricey but but well worth it. I had mine made of sunbrella about 6 years ago and they have kept the new interior I installed looking good.

You could also go redneck style and make your own. You could get one of those egg crate mattress cushions, cut it to size, then tape it to the windshield using blue painter's tape. May not look great, but do you want to impress your fellow travelers or protect your glass? :D

I would add, however, that we've trailered for a long time and have never had any problem with stone chips.

The easy and cheapest way may be to put some large mud flaps on your tow vehicle. They also make the kind of debris guard that attach to a receiver hitch you could put on and take of as you needed. Places like RV accessory stores should have these, might be worth a look their not very expensive.

I did exactly as Mike suggested. I purchased mudflaps mainly to protect my hull and of course this only protects you from rocks coming off your tires. To protect against other misc road debris I use a trailiering cover or my snap on cover when going any significant distance.

I got these from Cabella's for around $120.00, best I can remember.

I use the towtector, a bit more pricey than the flaps that impule has, but its the only thing I could find at the time. I also like that it is full width, I have read or seen something that alot of stones come form the fornt tires and bounce around the underside of the vehicle, and exit more towards the center of the truck. Cant find now to share naturally.
