No matter what type of material I try to screw, if I don't prep the hole, then I always end up damaging my bit. No matter how fast or slow I try it. I have tried in reverse as some people have suggested but that doesn't work either.

Any suggestions?

So what I am understanding is prior to boring any hole, I must take ample time preparing the surface area to receive the bit, otherwise I will mess it up and be very disappointed with the overall job. :?

This could be catastrophic because if I foul up a first time screw job, I may never screw in the boat again! :(

Well... YOU might not be disappointed, but the BOAT might be.
