Post subject:  Bimini Post / Junction Broken

I was backing the boat up to the garage to get in some shade to do some work and the bimini top was up. Duh!

I hit the garage slightly. The top seemed ok, but at the junction point where there is a plastic bracket and I assume the two aluminium posts meet, the lower one is popping out. Does anyone know if you can replace that lower portion?

Thanks

I did not take a picture when it came out (we were on the boat), but here is a photo showing you what I am talking about. I think there maybe a screw that goes through the white plastic and into the aluminium pole. So I might need to replace both sections and not just the bottom.

Will go snap some pictures of it apart if i can on lunch break.

Mine snapped in almost the same spot from a nice gust of wind on the lake. Three dealers later and the answer is buy a piece of 6064 tubing and bend a new pole to the same size or buy a new bimini top all together. Welding it worked for about 2 weeks then got a good wake and it snapped again. The screw hole makes the pole week at the junction. I am going to make a new tube for mine and try two part epoxy instead of a screw there this time.

I like Barman's two-part epoxy idea - I've used the West Marine 5-minute epoxy with good results with plastic and metals. Maybe rough up both the plastic and aluminum and try the epoxy before fabricating/replacing the tubing.

What I did was drill two holes in the plastic and run those little threaded screws that you use a allen wrench on and they went in the white plastic part and tightend against the aluminium post. So far so good. Every now and then they loosen a bit and need to be tightened.

However, yesterday, the white knob that screws into the windshield frame on either side backed out on the starboard side and is no where to be found (probably in the gulf of mexico). Gotta find the part number and get a new one. I had a screw on board that allowed me to use the bimini, but I like to have the right part!
