My little AC/DC fridge in the galley finally pooped out on me last week. I think it sounds like the compressor went up. It doesn't work on AC or battery.

We all know any item prefixed with "Marine" quadruples the cost. I'm curious if anyone has found any online deals for replacement AC/DC fridges and if so, could you share?

I'm probably going to rip out the broken fridge and replace it with a small AC-only non-marine fridge from Walmart or something. I don't want to spend $300 on a $100 fridge.

Thanks in advance.

Just starting my research on the same subject. Our fridge works fine, but the admiral wants to add one to the wet bar in the cockpit. Looking to go with a small AC unit just to use when at the dock on shore power. I'll let you know what I find, but I suspect Wally World apartment size fridge is what we will end up with too.

I've found this one by Avanti. It may work for you perfectly.

The only caveat I see is that it must be installed "free standing" meaning I "shouldn't" install it inside cabinetry like my old fridge is...

$154 is an enticing price.

Thanks, yes, keep me posted on other solutions you find.

The problem withthat Avanti unit is that it is a thermoelectric model. This may be okay to chill some sodas, but it won't make anything "cold" in 90 degree weather by any means. Only a fridge with a danfoss compressor will give you real ice-cold in any temperature while being able to run on 12 volt. This has been bugging me for a couple of months now, and then best solution that I was able to come up with in regards to performance vs. bottom line dollar is to go with a cooler-type fridge from Waeco/Dometic. I am not sure how they are connected company-wise, but their offering appears the same.
They go from small to large. Image Image

They can't be installed, but can at least you can strap them down, leave them plugged into 12v for an awfully long time without worrying about amperage draw, and I find the top loading a benefit. They do have one that is half freezer and half cooler. Good for sodas and ice cream in the same cooler, but I think it is expensive. The smaller one, the cf-18, is probably the one I am going to go with. Has a good capacity, and is right around the $300 mark. Good luck.

The problem we ran into was the size. Trying to Maximise for the space. Most of the small college units were too small, and the nicer one's with a separate freezer were just a little too big to fit into the hole. I will have to look and see which one we got.

We did buy the small "college" type AC only fridge for under the wet bar. Don't really need AC/DC fridge in the cockpit
since we have one already in the cabin. After one season of use, the little $76 fridge we bought keeps things cold all afternoon
on the water without any power. It would not be a good one if you do not have shore power on your boat, and did not
plug it in every night after you got back to the slip. But it works fine for us.

How to repair a plastic refrigerator drawer that melted shape in the dishwasher? My husband put our drawer from the Refrigerator in the dishwasher to clean it and it melted shape. Can I reshape it?
